Ok I shoot weddings, seniors, headshots, dogs for my job along with some video. So I do a fair bit of everything. Including some wildlife or my kids sports for fun but the others as my income.

Just bought a like new 1dx2 and love it but keep wondering if I should of went with 2 5d4 bodies. Or really spend the money and get a 5d4 as my second body.

Or keep the 1dx2 and get a used 5d3 or 6d and pocket cash lol
I'm back and forth

I have no input here but did purchase both the 1DX2 and 5D4 recently. In the mail and will receive shortly. And you have been going back and forth, here and on the FM forums lol

My only experience thus far is with the 5D3. However, from reading all the forums, your paid gig shooting dogs would benefit from the 1DX2 since it sounds like you had trouble with keeping up with the 5D4 (from the FM forums). While the 1DX2 may be a little noisy for weddings, I can imagine it can't be that bad. But not sure. I say keep the 1DX2 since the 5D4 is not fast enough for your dog work. And it should be fine for your other paid gigs and personal stuff.

Dual 5D4 cameras, or one 1DX2 and one 5D4, would be nice but expensive. And you have to think about what benefits you would have with a second body. Would you really carry around two bodies frequently to cover different FL ranges? Is the second body just a backup?

If all you're looking for is a backup, the 5D4 is an expensive one to just have it sit there in case your first camera breaks.

Again, this is only my experience form reading other people's experiences online lol

Well I have shot weddings with 2 bodies before but mostly use 1 body at a time. Second body is mostly for backup I guess. I like the idea of a 5d4 for more laid back shoots or even for my traveling. But then again I'm sure a 5d3 would do lol

Yeah, maybe the 5D3 will do for the backup and laid back shots. That's kind of what I'm doing. Keeping the 5D3 for times when I don't really need the MPs. 1DX2 for action. 5D4 for all other times. Some overlap with the 5D3 and 5D4 but the Mark III also serves as a backup. Now, what do I do with the 7D? Lol

Tough call man. If you're on the fence and going back and forth, maybe take a break from all this buying and selling, and go out and shoot for a bit. And see what works and doesn't work. Sales prices usually only go down.

I have been shooting lol
Sold my 5d3 so I may just go for the 5d4 and be done. I'd be set for a long time and if 1 body would go down I'd have the piece of mind of knowing I have a kick butt body to use. I'd really like to add the 35L II though haha

:lol::lol: That is truly hilarious. Get a 1DX2 for dogs. Is it really true that a 5D4 is inadequate for dogs? A $3000+ camera that can't shoot dogs. I can't get over this. Just last Friday I took some shots of my dogs with a 6D and a 1DIV. What was I thinking? Thanks for making my Sunday. :-P:-P:-P

BTW, I am acquainted with a young lady who shoots Graduations/Engagements/Products well enough to support herself and her daughter. I last saw her about 2 years ago. She was still using an XTi, and hoping to upgrade to a used 60D for some video work.

Thanks again.

I own the 1DXII but don't have experience with the 5DIV. Even so, I think the 5DIV might be a better choice for most of your paid work. If you are shooting weddings you really need a 2nd body. If you can add a 5DIV and keep the 1DXII that would be a fantastic combo, but if that isn't feasible I would put the priority on having a two body setup, even if it means selling the 1DXII.

Yeah, just about 2X. I remember back in the '70s shooting dogs, and other stuff, like soccer players, with 0 (zero) frames per second, manual everything film camera. I also had to pay for every frame. I do appreciate the low cost of 'spray and pray', but it isn't the answer to everything. If someone wants to loan me a 5D4, I'd be happy to post some dog shots. It can be done. Really.

5D4 as the second if you can swing it... if not, 5D3 since you are already familiar with it.
