Our family is at a point where we may decide to relocate within the next year or two. Between the weather, taxes, and politics, New York has become a place I want no part of. We are looking into the Tampa/Sarasota area in Florida. I've been to the area a number of times and the wife and I are booked to head down there just the two of us to use it as sort of a scouting trip to see what we like and don't like. Obviously the sunshine, low property taxes, and no state income tax are pluses. However, I don't know too much about any negatives. This is where you come in.
Some articles I've read online suggest that crime (specifically gangs) are a problem in the area. I understand that crime can be anywhere and that there are no guarantees, but how prevalent is it if you live in a nice area and don't go to "trouble" spots?
Anything anyone can offer about living in the gulf region would be super helpful. Thanks.
