Stefany in studio

I posted a couple in the Editorial thread, but thought I'd start a new one for the rest. Would love any feedback as this is my first real go at fasion/editorial in studio.

Realy great lighting! Very moody some may say too dark with no seperation from the backgrpund but I really dig it. The only thing that bothers me is the 6th one down the model's elbow is pointed rigut at camera and thats kinda a poseing no no

Thanks! Posing is definitely a weak point of mine. Good to know about elbows. Would you recommend any reading/research I can do to prevent any other faux pas?

The lighting is really moody, which is my preference, so I really like these.

If you are telling me this was meant for fashion, then I think you missed the mark as these shots are all about the model and I can barely make out the details in the clothing which fashion is meant to portray. Usually in fashion shoots, the model is just a "live hanger".

In general, I like the posing also but I agree with the previous comment about the elbow towards the camera, but otherwise well done.

Thanks! You're right about fashion being about selling a product, and thanks for the 'live hanger' quip, I will use that from now on haha! So would you classify these as editorial? fine art? just regular portraits? I'm having trouble differentiating.

I wouldn't presume to define anything with photography. Everything seems to have such fine lines between them.

I guess it depends on what the purpose of this shoot was.

Editorial images are usually meant to accompany text and can cover a wide range of subjects. Editorials are used to illustrate a story, article, text or an idea within the context of a magazine or to embellish a certain theme visually. It can be in any genre: photojournalism, fashion, portrait, sports, landscape, etc.

Up to you how you want to classify it

These images are a great example of why there needs to be an art director and make up artist on a fashion/editorial shoot.

The white nail polish on fingers and toes is a distraction in all of the images. It creates little beacons of highlight in otherwise well lit, moody images.

These are really lovely. Lighting and post production is great, and while these are NOT bad by any stretch, more experience with posing / connection will come with time.

Personally I don't think that the "rules" always need to be adhered to; that said, I would personally lift the shadows just a tad for slightly more detail. It's true that fashion photography is mostly geared towards advertising the clothing, but model photography is also a massive component of the genre. So in that sense, yes, these still count as fashion photography.
