Hi,

We're headed out for a shout, 3 day trip to Death Valley and then a couple more in Vegas. I don't have much in my camera bag in the way of a wide angle lens (currently I have a 400mm L 4.0, 70-200mm L 2.8, and a 28-70mm L 2.8 and I shoot 50Ds).

I'd like to have a UWA/fisheye for shooting slot canyons, landscapes, night skies. Looking at something like the Canon 8-15mm 4/L or perhaps the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX11.

Not sure I can really justify buying the Canon at 3X the money as I doubt I will use it much.

Thoughts? Other lenses to consider? Pros/Cons? Feedback on the Tokina? Seems to do well in the reviews I've read so far.

Thanks in advance.
Tim

Have you considered the Rok 14/2.8?

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

have you ever used wider than 28mm? personally i don't like fisheyes for landscapes because of the curvature...you could snag a 10-18IS for super cheap, 15% off refurbs right now, so just over $200...i'd opt for that

I have a tokina 12-24 that takes beautifully rendered photos.

Thanks for the feedback.

Scrum, not really familiar with the Rokinon, and I think I want the flexibility of a zoom lens.

DreDaze, no, haven't shot much below 28mm recently. I agree on the general landscape, and was thinking mainly of night/sky scapes. What lens are you talking about and where?

Thanks Frodge, I'll look at that too.

Other thoughts? Anyone using the Tokina 11-16? Leaning that directions after reading a lot of reviews.

I'm talking about the canon 10-18mm IS lens...the 11-16mm is good too, pretty much all the crop UWA lenses are good

It's a manual focus lens.

Advantages: cheap, sharp.
Disadvantages: Manual focus, has some issues with mustache distortion.

Thanks Dre. Where are you seeing the refurbs on sale?

Thank you. Looks like they don't have anything close to what I'm looking for, all out of stock, but I appreciate the link.
