85 Art : AF issues false or not ? Many ?

I see AF (backfocus) issues in some reviews, are these false or not ?
Any figures about how much % of the lenses would affect this ?

Normally quality control would be strict for the Arts as it's a more expensive class.
I didn't have any problems with my 35 Art & 50 Art

It's because I got a nice bid on my 85L (MKI) for the same price of a new Sigma 85 Art.
The 85L doesn't pass any distance info to the body, I don't know in which way this can affect pictures without & with flash (wireless setup).

if all you hear is little back focus that is easily fixed my either using the cameras MA or buy the sigma dock to really fine tune it.

Uhm... I don't have the lens, but what people call "back focus" is usually caused by focus-shift.
Focus-shift is by lens design, and depends on the aperture and focusing distance. Hence, you cannot really "fix it" with MFA.

The good news is that focus-shift does not happen wide-open, so it is easy to find out if that is the case by setting the lens to manual focus, focusing with Live View on a target at about 2 meters, and then taking two shots: one wide open at f/1.4 and one at f/2.8. If the f/2.8 shot is backfocused, the lens suffers from focus shift. While testing, be sure you have reset any MFA adjustment.

Damn I looked too fast, the 85 Art was €899 but now I see it's the Nikon version and the Canon costs €1069, big difference of €169...
I'll keep the 85L MKI for the moment...

There are more.

The 85A is the best focusing sigma glass I've ever used. It's more accurate than many canon glass. My copy is at least...

Accuracy issues are usually caused by a problem in the body (notable exceptions are focus shift or defective lens with tilted elements).

Also, as far as I know, third-party lenses don't activate all AF features in a Canon body. Don't know if Sigma found a way to do that.

ED after using one the other day, all I can say is Unfortunately Talley is right on the art. Its way better than the L. Buy a mile. My only concern is the weight as its dam heavy. I think its on par with the Otus...Bokeh is that good. Pretty amazing piece of glass.....Go try one and leave your wallet at home

I really want to try out Sigma A lenses, but I keep hearing so much about AF issues... worries me, but at the same time I want to save $$ in my pocket in comparison to Canon lenses.

If compared with the 85L 1.2 the Art is not that heavier....I would say 100 grams or 4 oz is really insignificant.

The 85L also has more weight toward the front while the art has the weight more toward the rear. When mounted to the 5D4 they both end up balancing out equally where you don't really feel that extra 4oz.

He'd be comparing weight against his 85/1.8 though.

I dont have an 85L to compare against. But again, its really heavy compared to the 85 1.8 that I have been using for the last 3 yrs. I would think it will feel very close to the L and I used an L for an entire season....Yup...It was heavy after 10 hrs...but nothing I could not handle. Like I said, compared to the 1.8 its a fricken brick on the camera especially a 1Dx2.

Going to rent one and use it at a wedding and make a call. While weight is a concern, ability to lock and track in poor light is a bigger concern. It will soon find out
