I have a 24 and 50mm Art that I'm attached to at the hip.

I was gonna sell all my canon gear and go purely sony but I'm wondering how Sony primes hold up compared to these.

I also kinda wanted to keep these because I was gonna get a 5DC or 6D eventually so that is kinda a factor but I also don't mind not getting those and just getting sony primes :P

btw I LOVE my a7r II so far.

its just awesome

but yeah

what primes hold up vs art series!!!!!?!!!

55 f1.8, I couldn't get use to the added 5mm...
50 1.4 but expensive
Batis 25, only f2
Sony 28, only f2, not exactly 24

You're at the mercy of a new system, however you can adapt for the time.

I don't mind price as much as I do quality. I know that I will get used to it and I don't mind different apertures.
I'm really asking from a quality standpoint if anything competes or if I should just get the adapter and keep these lenses I already have

Just my humble $0.02, but the low-hanging-fruit approach would be to start by getting the MC-11 (which is far cheaper than any of the above mentioned lenses), and see how you like the glass you've already got. Then if you get a feeling like you're missing out on something, look at some native options

The one thing that you will be missing out on, in the short term, would be the ability to strip it down to a tiny package, great for family outings etc. Adapted glass usually means big and heavy. My A7Rii spends 95% of its life with a vertical grip on the bottom, and huge lenses attached to it. But when I'm about to go to a family gathering, or just somewhere out with the kids, there's nothing quite like being able to make it tiny. In my case, I use the 55mm f/1.8, and remove the grip, and voila. Almost pocket-able. The 28mm f/2 is also pretty cheap and good for this purpose. In terms of quality, I'd put the 55mm in a higher echelon than the 28mm. Some people call it a "mini Otus" - crazy sharp. You get a little CA wide open, but overall it's really a superb little piece of glass IMHO

55 is crazy sharp wide open, and tiny compared to the 50 art. Top notch optics.

25 is supposedly very sharp wide open as well, havent tried it myself as I'm not a very big 24/25 prime guy even though I own two 24mm primes :p

It's the other way around. What art primes can compete with the Sony and zeiss primes. I've owned sigma art lenses on both canon and Sony and feel the iq of many of the Sony and zeiss lenses is superior. For your 24 and 50 lenses I would recommend the batis 25 and the Sony zeiss 55. If you don't mind MF then the loxia 21 is Amazing instead of the batis

Your sigma lenses are faster than these lenses though but you pay for that in bulk

I am curious on why you might still buy a 5dc or a 6d now that you already own an a7r2?

6D; canon 85mm 1.8, Tamron 24-70mm VC, Canon 135L Canon 70-200L is ii

I mean I've shot all the L series glass and always preferred the Art series over it.

I guess I'll have to check out the other stuff but tbh I am not impressed with the 24-70 G master so I'm hoping that isn't the case with the rest of the lenses.
I really Would love to stay native so maybe I'll find some loaners to use and possibly sell all my canon stuff in a package then.

5DC has an irreplaceable look IMO.
I just love the way it renders.
6D would be more of a precautionary measure to having a backup camera that is cheap but worth its weight in gold.

and it would mainly be to keep the art series lenses and have a spare camera my wife can use!

but yeah
They are amazing cameras and for the price they can't be beat which is the only reason I thought about keeping the EF lenses and adapting them over.

Eddie, that's a good way of putting it.

Sometimes we knock DXO Mark here, but I do think they are good at testing lenses. If you believe what they have to say about the Sony and Zeiss FE primes, you'll see there aren't many lenses in the 35mm world that compete with the native glass for Sony.

Unfortunately, I have never used the Batis 25 but I am a big admirer of the shots that I've seen taken with it. And don't get me wrong, I like my A-Mount Zeiss 24 f2, but the Batis may very well be the best AF 24/25 on the market and I would love to have one. Of note, the Batis has a T-stop of f2 and the Sigma 24A has a T-stop of 1.8 on a Canon 5Dsr--so in terms of light collected they are similar. With better IQ and with it being a smaller/lighter lens, the Batis only loses in DOF for all practical purposes.

The FE55 is the lens that convinced me to switch to Sony. I loved my 50A when I had my 6D, and my 135L was my solid #2. Seeing reviews and samples for the FE55 made me feel like I wouldn't miss a beat when I switched over completely, as I already had an a6000 with the kit lens that went everywhere with me.

In short, the FE55 is on either my a6000 or a7r most of the time, as it is not only my best IQ lens but also my fastest-focusing lens. It renders very, very similar to the 50A and it also packs that same level of sharpness--if not more, and I didn't think that was possible from a non-OTUS.

I've shot sports, events, political campaign work and done professional session work with it. I even stepped up for a friend when a wedding photographer had to leave (he was only paid to shoot the ceremony!) and was able to give him some professional-level shots in the terrible lighting of a twilight outdoor reception under a tent. I would have never brought a camera attached to the fairly obtrusive 50A with me to that ceremony, but the a7 body with the FE55 was just small enough to pull it off.

Versatility, quality and diminutive size--a great package for the 55 1.8.

But don't just take our word for it, here are some other opinions.

The first is the best comparison of the two I've found, and they compare a few other 50's as well:

The 55/1.8 is the sharpest 50'ish lens I've ever shot and the bokeh is smooth and sexy,
I too made the switch only after using my buddies a7rii/55 combo...

My batis 25 is another crazy sharp and just all round awesome lens...I shot/owned about every EF and EF-s mount lens out there from 14mm-400mm...although I never shot the 24 or 85 Art's...
I bought a Metabones 4 to use with all my EF glass...I just didn't think I'd ever be able to let go of my 50 and 85L's (my favorite glass and FL's).
But, the Eye-Focus, sharpness and superior AF of native Sony glass won me over... To me, Sony Glass is, in fact sharper, it really amazes me sometimes when peeping....
Now, it could also be that there's no front or backfocus BS to deal with either...Sheesh, I don't miss that at all....

My 25 Batis, FE55 and 85 Batis are as good or better than the L alternatives, although at 1.8 my 85 doesn't get quite the separation as my L did, but the AF is faster and more "sure".

Then again...if you aren't impressed with the 24-70 GM...Not sure what you are looking for...My GM is really on the same level as my old 24-70LmkII which in itself, is an amazing zoom.

Here's my thoughts summed up I guess...The only ART lens I owned was the 50, and it was an excellent lens for sure..The bokeh on those Sigma primes is so bloody smooth..Even the non ART's have
that smooth mushy bokeh....If you like that, the only FE mount lens that is similar to that (to me) is the 85GM, it reminds me a lot of the Sigma "look"...The 55 is a little different, but does have the sharpness and some really sweet bokeh as well..

Good luck and let us know what you decided on...I'd like to see some shots of the body and lenses with the adapters though...gotta be huge right?

Oh, and I agree, the 5DC was a really amazing body, did portraits like no other ...5DC/85LmkII = Beautiful

Sony Zeiss Rendering > Sigma Art Rendering

Both the FE55 and the Batis 25 are better lenses than their Sigma counter-parts IMO. The downside is that f-stop you're giving up.

well currently using a metabones III adapter LOL but I did do some shots that are now on 500px if you want to see them.
I obviously did some post work but yeah
I will post them today

I gotta get some more recent ones edited but I will upload some files.
I can also do some raw files if you just wanna see how they look straight out of camera raw

Both images were shot with the old (gross) Metabones III adapter and the sigma art 50mm
I upgraded today to the sigma with eye AF and I'm looking forward to it.
I did a little sharpening in RAW when I did this but not too much
If you wanna see any raw files from this or the 24-70 I'd be happy to post :D
