Anyone used the Olympus Tough TG4?

I usually use a Canon 6D for most of my photography, but I'm looking for a waterproof camera to use with my baby daughter at pools, beaches, etc. As long as I can get decent quality, I think a compact camera will work fine for these types of outings as I'll still have a DSLR for other things. I'm hoping someone with this camera can tell me whether or not you get decent quality shots with it because I can't buy it locally and would have to order it online. It's over twice the price of the cheapest waterproof compact I can find, but according to the info I can find, it's the only compact waterproof that shoots RAW, which makes it very attractive to me!

I have an Olympus Tough TG-850, bought for use on construction sites etc and for days out thinking it would be a good walk-around camera. I found the image quality disappointing to say the least (having spent around £350 or more). I can't imagine why the TG-4 is going to be any different.

If there is a waterproof housing available for the 6D i would put the money towards that.

The difference in IQ between the 6D and the Tough is night and day.

If you can go to a shop and try one that would be best before shelling out and being disappointed like me.

I didn't use my Tough underwater but the one time I did it was quickly sent to Olympus for repair! I wouldn't trust it underwater again!

I've used the TG-4 and just upgraded to the TG-5. The 4 is an amazing camera. Tough as hell, and the image quality is pretty good. I mean, it's a compact, so it's not going to be as good as what you'd get from an SLR, but certainly not bad. The ability to shoot RAW is a wonderful thing as well, and you will get much better image quality from the raw files. It's got a lot of other great features too. The macro mode is truly amazing, and the wifi lets you use your phone as a remote release. For a camera that you can just slip in your pocket and take anywhere, the TG4 is the best.

That's an amazing photo from a compact! I'm hoping to invest in the TG4, but I'm waiting for a good sale. In the meantime, a friend let me borrow her waterproof compact.

The updated model, the TG-5, has just come out. You may find that shops will bne discounting the TG-4 to make room for it.
