Hi everyone
I found this offer on ebay and it seems pretty good deal. This is the second time this guy lists the same item. The first time he sold 7 out of 9 available cameras and then he re-listed the item again with 8 available pieces.

What do you think is this a suspicious deal, maybe fake camera from grey market?

The seller is new and only has 4 feedback. I wouldn't be in such a rush to buy from them. Wait and see what the feedback is on the last set of purchases made.

Yes i thought of that i am following his deal that lasted about 10 days. I am wondering if those 7 people that bought are real customers or maybe there is some trick..
From his feedback i see his first deal was for nikon lens that looks similar to this one, he sold 4 identical lenses and those customers look happy by what we see on the feedback.

I will wait a little more to see how it will go this time, maybe somebody who already bought will leave a feedback.
I messaged him asking about warranty and he replied that he is sending an invoice and that the warranty will be valid worldwide but you can't trust anyone now days...

I've bought plenty of expensive items from eBay. It's a very trustworthy place. You just have to do the research about the seller and item worth before buying. Take your time to make sure it's a real listing.

I think you are correct as far as your suspicions go without a doubt a fake grey market camera. And its not even from Hong Kong or China but from France!

The cameras that are grey market are not fake. They are the same as cameras purchased anywhere else. The only thing that is different is the warranty. Even without a US warranty, Canon has been known to repair grey market cameras under warranty.

Yeah, I hear Nikon doesn't repair out-of-country purchases.

Rule of thumb is that...

- if the price is too good to be true, it usually means stay away
- if the price is lower than what it usually retails for in your country, it usually means its a grey market (real camera just that it's being sold in a different region than it was intended for. ie: a camera that is meant to be sold in Asia/Europe but is being sold in the US)
- ALWAYS take a look at the feedback to see what their selling history is. Sometimes, these sellers can sell small items or buy stuff just to build feedback and once they build enough, they sell higher priced items. Some accounts can be stolen (via phishing), items listed for sale and when the original owner finds out, eBay takes actions by closing the account and suspending all sales.

I actually bought a FitBit for my wife on eBay. Price was a great deal but I noticed that location and names on eBay and PayPal account did not match. I did however receive the item. Went to leave feedback and account was closed. So I got lucky.

Having done over 2000+ transactions myself, you start to figure out and know what is legit and what may not. I've seen some listings where it says its being shipped from CA but the seller is listed as coming from Indonesia or some other country with minimal feedback. They may be legit but I wouldn't know that until I buy from them but something I would be cautious about.

I've heard Nikon will not repair grey market gear but Canon will and has repaired them.

Good to know, thanks guys. I also have heard nikon don't repair cameras bought from other countries. I am from Macedonia and i even called the official Nikon authorized dealer in my country and they told me that they don't accept the warranties from another countries even if the camera was bought from authorized seller, which is really lame but that's it.

However i know a lot of people who have bought and use grey market cameras wo problems and i know that, just like eddieb1 said, these are not fake devices just imported through another channels sometimes maybe even illegal for avoiding taxes or something...

Here are some other sellers from EU with good prices and pretty good feedback if someone is interested.

Just to confirm for those who are interested and would maybe want to buy something from Ebay. Keep your eyes open and do a good research before buying.
After a while this seller started receiving the negative feedback and obviously he deceived a lot of people.

Not in my experience. Right now I'm sitting on a set of 8 Counterfeit Denso spark plugs. Even though eBay told me they were aware of the problem, and had restricted the seller (welljob) from selling more spark plugs they couldn't do anything for me. The seller did not respond to the messages I sent him. And, about 2 months later the seller is selling spark plugs again. I doubt I will ever return to eBay.

dont know what camera you listed as its gone.
but I bought my 7DII off ebay last year new and saved few hundred bucks and havnt had a problem with it. just buy from the more reputable ones.
Dont worry about gray market as canon only has a 1year warranty so mine would be out of warranty already by now anyway.
this is the place I bought my 7D from and a Sigma 17-50OS had no issues and good prices and fast shipping

Thanks for following up and confirming what I and others suspected. I've seen this type of scam before, i.e., sell a few, get positive feedback, then sell a lot with no intention of delivering.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've bought a broken calculator from eBay years ago. But, I've also found very good deals and lucky listings before that paid off in hundreds
