Reason for selling: I purchased this (from someone on here) for a 2 week trip to South Africa. It performed flawlessly, focused insanely fast, and created some great images. Unfortunately in my normal day-to-day life I don't really have a need for this lens so on it goes to a new home.

I'm not sure I can lower the price too much more. If it gets much lower than that I will just hold onto it. I bought it for $1700 and literally used it on 1 trip for 2 weeks. Maybe I'll try ebay if it doesn't sell at this price on here.

I can understand deducting some value for the marks on the tripod foot, personally I've never been one to worry about things like that as long as it functions perfectly and this lens does function perfectly. I guess you could buy a new tripod foot but that seems kind of a silly purchase to me just because it has some paint missing from it.

Agreed! Last time I checked, the optics and IS system were the most important factors of a lens. I keep coming back to this post, but I cannot bring myself to get rid of my 150-600 for a 400mm, despite the 100-400 being a phenomenal lens. I will miss those 200mm despite the IQ being lesser. I want both, but my logical financial self says that is silly. Darn this GAS!

I know alot of folks go with cosmetics on items, regardless of how well the rest of the lens does with the actual delivery of an image.

Yeah I've purchased optically and functionally perfect lenses with cosmetic issues in the past and had a heck of a time selling them when the time came. I'm amazed at how people buying USED stuff expect it to look factory-fresh.

In this case, I'm more concerned with whatever appears to be on the left side of the front element.

It's dust. You're not the first person to ask about that. Here's a new shot I just took after cleaning the lens really good.

I am more than happy to buy stuff with cosmetic issues, scratches, peeled paint, are perfectly fine. After all, its what on the inside that counts, isn't it?

Now I just wish I had some disposable cash to relieve you off your lens. Alas, not going to happen

As a buyer people are trusting you when you write it functions perfectly. And when there's paint chipping I think for some, and to an extent myself, people are wary because it's a sign of heavy use. For those who are very cautious about rubbing/bumping the lens on things, when they see the paint chips/markings it's a sign that the owner 'doesn't treat the gear with the same level of care' as they may do themselves. It raises the questions of how the the markings got there. It kills me when I notice a new scratch on my gear. I was holding a step stool for the main photog while second shooting, one of my cameras swung up and bumped the leg and scratched. It's still irks me every time I see it. Did it do anything to affect the way it works...of course not.
In regards to your lens, seeing the 'scratches' on your tripod foot, it looks more like a strap wrapping itself around the foot and removing the paint, more then the lens banging around. The marks that scare me are dings on the ends, especially on barrels that extend(85L) where a bump could affect AF accuracy.
I love this lens and the little time I had with it during a CPS eval loan. I will eventually own it. Currently working on swapping gear to finally get my hands on a 1Dx
