Sigma 24-70 2.8 ART coming soon

anyone else excited to try this over the Canon ?

i was thinking about the Canon version but definitely going to wait now to see what the Sigma price and reviews will be like

I'm very interested in this lens too but I'm afraid that it's not going to hit focus in dark reception halls and just hunt. And that's where I'd want to use this lens the most. I never see that particular situation discussed in the reviewers I follow. I'm going to have to wait for actual wedding photographers to do blog reviews. Our Tammy VC works well for most of the wedding day but then hits a point at the end of the night where it consistently misses, grabbing focus on whatever is behind what I put the square on (always on a contrast line ie vest meets shirt) It's not an MFA issue as it would be missing focus during the day. It strictly has issues when it's dark and that'll be something I'd wait on to see for this lens.

I am very excited about this lens but still no news on when it is coming.
Anyone know when to expect this lens?

It is saying as "coming soon" on B&H but not sure if it means anything though...
I would have picked up another 24-70 f2.8L canon but really curious about the OS on the Sigma Art.

We aren't at the starting gate and you already have a negative opinion. I am more optimistic, having the Sigma 17-50 f2.8 and finding it locks on beautifully in low light.

It's not an opinion. It's a concern...a question based on previous experience from both research and personal experience.
I've read several reviews from wedding photographers(blog reviews of their usage during actual weddings) using their prime art lenses during a wedding and find that in the dark reception halls(lights down low) that they have a harder time locking focus on guests then they'd like. My good friend has the 24-104 Art and says it can hunt in certain scenarios. My experience with my Tamron 24-70 is similar. My 35f2IS ALWAYS outperforms that lens. So, from my standpoint, my concern is valid. My hopes are that this lens works well but doesn't change my feeling. I'm happy you have had a good experience with your crop lens. But in your analysis of my concern, you seemed to disregard why I felt that way, guess I needed to reiterate my concerns/explain further.

Why the need to prove you're right?

I have been looking at all the reviews for the various Canon mount 24-70mm lenses. While the Canon F4 is interesting with IS and macro, I feel I will look for the 2.8, but man that aint cheap and it doesn't have IS. The current Tokina seems very interesting since it is a 2.8 at almost 50% of the Canon and it seems to deliver great images (losses a bit at 2.8 it seems, again no IS).

This new Sigma could solve some of those issues (macro isn't that meaningful to me).

I have the Sigma 18-35 1.8 ART, and it has a hard time catching focus in dim light on my 7D MKII, more so than my Tokina 11-20mm. I noticed this when on vacation chasing the kids inside a rental house. The Sigma had a hard time hunting about (at f/1.8) yet stick the Tokina on (at f/2.8) and boom, focus achieved every time. Given medium to bright light, the Sigma is rock solid and is faster to achieve focus than the Tokina. Faster focus is only good when it can actually focus.

So I too want to see reviews of this new Sigma and will likely rent one to try it in dim lit circumstances before committing to it or the Canon 2.8.

sigma, at a lens show in london a little while back

getting quite impatient, im almost considering to just get the canon

B&H does not even have a price yet. Only notify when available. Not a good sign that it's coming anytime soon.

I am in the same boat, seriously considering puling the plug and getting the Canon one while it's still on sale...
