EDIT Moved to EOS, no longer rumor;

Very excited to see a 1080P full HD video from 3K resoluation for increased performance.... full frame 3K option and the new 120/200 Mbps bit rates.

The 1.3 crop is a welcome addition as well.

Hope this is all true

This would do a lot to help with the limitations of the 5D4 Video.

First time I have heard the term "3K"

I did not plan on buying a Mark IV mainly because of the crop factor with 4k... but this might change my mind a little...

Wow, they are going to raise the price of the 5D4 to account for this new firmware? Wow.

I'd be very interested to know exactly what a Canon tech actually does with a 5D4 when it comes in for that upgrade. That is, what they do that isn't just a firmware upgrade, and possibly some Canon internal flash or ROM setting change (i.e. still a software change, but with a non-public tool).

Question is; will this make a big difference vs just using one of the custom picture styles such as Technicolor Cinestyle?

A lot of smoke ... not many mirrors ... confusion all round. It would be commercial hari kari to invite 5Div owners to pay for a firmware update and would create huge confusion in the market. Canon will end up either having to pay (as in recall) or the upgrade will not happen ... which might just end up being a slower and more painful form of commercial hari kari.

I moved this out of the RUMORS forum and may edit the title a bit, no longer a rumor.

From Canon themselves;

Still shaking my head on this one.

I don't know, it seemed the video peeps were most disappointed that the read out was not full frame for 4K.
This does not change that,. I would bet that this would be much more well received if it did.

Some will want this "RAW for Video" IQ boost I am sure,. but I did not read a lot of posts asking for this.

I'm guessing this would include the improved heat sink since you have to send the camera to a service centre?

The talk of a heat sink though was related to a firmware upgrade to get full frame 4K; I can't see how they'd need that for enabling a log LUT/gamma.

I also suspect that they won't be opening the camera up in any way ($99 is surely not enough to cover a tech's time to go fiddling about in any depth). More likely I'd guess would be that it'll be hooked up via USB (or some other port) to an internal Canon configuration (software) tool. I.e. I'd be very surprised if anything was done to the camera that couldn't be done at home with the right configuration software - but that bit of software will be not be for public consumption.
