Does the Canon 1.4 III Extender use a REAR lens cap that is different than those that fit all of their lenses?
For the life of me, all of my Canon lens caps I've tried do not fit. I'm thinking that when I sold my 5DII body I put that extender rear cap on it, which fit, but not vice-versa...or maybe I just lost it... Aaaarrgghh!

-?

Yeaaaah, it's a deeper rear cap. I went through the same thing the first time... was totally dumbfounded when none of my caps fit, LOL

Wow - never noticed that. When travelling, I carry a spare rear lens cap and spare front caps for my main lenses - for a short while I misplaced a front lens cap while travelling in the nether regions of Alaska where no replacement was available. What a pain that was.

I have only noticed a difference in the front caps. I think all the rear caps are the same.

Me too. I don't understand this thread. The front cap is deeper than the one used for a camera without a lens on it. The rear is the same as used for all lenses. Don't remember if the front is different than the v1 and v2 extenders though.

"I'm thinking that when I sold my 5DII body I put that extender rear cap on it"

I'd call the front of the TC the bit that attaches to the lens and the rear the bit that attaches to the camera.
Using my terminology, only the front cap fits the camera.
As per above two posts, only the front cap is deeper and specific for TCs.

Just in case this crops up again, as they say, a picture is worth 1,000 words.:-)

Assuming B&H are correct in their description, the link below is for the Canon Extender Cap E II Front Cap for EF 1.4x & 2x Tele Extenders, which looks like the deeper front lens cap for the Canon Extenders.

PS - excuse the blur - slow handheld shutter speed with flash.

This is exactly right. I think that the OP got his directions all messed up, because the way he wrote his post, none of it makes any sense to me.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I wouldn’t be too hard on the OP, I had the actual components in front of me and still struggled to give them their correct descriptions.:-)

Cheers

Dennis

The "Front" and "Back" of an item depends on one's perspective and one's experiences.

For example the front of my camera is where I put the lens on, on the other hand the back of my bow is where the arrow shoots out! That could lead to some interesting mistakes:-)

To me the OP's post was perfectly clear, so I just gave then the solution and didn't squabble about terminology. The OP seemed happy - why are others not?

When I read the following (quoted below), it is not clear at all. Why? Because it is impossible to put a rear lens cap onto a camera body . . . yet the OP said that he did just that.

I do not understand how this can be clear to you. If somebody says that they did something that is physically impossible to do, how can that possibly be clear? Such statements lead to confusion, not clarity.
