He said he's going to have a 6mo in a backpack. He isn't shooting "serious" landscapes in that condition. ;-)a

Oh, I'll get some serious landscapes. There are two of us going and we'll be there for a week.

Than you!

Maybe the 24 and 70-200. Sounds like longer length is a needed thing, and I might not be able to get right into the scene with the kid. I'm not against more than one lens, just want to keep the weight reasonable.

Thanks for all the replies!

Go to this website for current road conditions into Yosemite

https://www.nps.gov …nyourvisit/conditions.htm (external link)

Right now Hwy 120 into Yosemite is not accessible due to storm damage. Hwy 140 is open, as is the highway thru Wawona. Chains are sometimes needed on the highway thru Wawona while Hwy 140 continues without chain controls.

Glacier Point Road is still closed for the season. During the past 3 years (drought years, BTW) Glacier Point Road opened about mid-April. But in the 17 years prior to 2012 it never opened until May, and two years as late as July!

I got my think tank belt on with the 70-200, a 90 prime, my camera w/24 prime, and a backpack with 25lbs in it. Starting my training. Now I need to find a nice 45 degree incline and see how that feels.

If it isn't too late... my advice is rent!

EF 16-35 f4 and if carrying two lenses, the EF 24-70 f4.

I am going to the once in a lifetime graduation for my son with a rented EF 100-400 MkII:lol:

How often do you end up with a lens that isn't calibrated with no time to swap when you rent? Those two lenses sound a bit lighter.

If you are renting, this is probably where you want to go:

I don't think you'll have a problem with a lens that's not properly calibrated but others here who have rented from them should chime in. I own both the 16-35 f4 and the 24-70 f4 and they are both excellent lenses. Pack your 70-200 as well and you're covered. I'd still lobby for the 24-105 F4 as a one lens solution but that's just my personal bias (and some experience traveling with children :p).

I still have time to think about it, but one lens sure has a nice ring to it.

if you have nice belt attachments, you can carry more gear, but shooting with a small kid can be challenging. I occasionally go shooting with my baby with up to 3 lenses and a tripod. Belt attachments can get you there if the baby doesnt kick them.

going ultra wide would require you to get much closer to the action than it seems like you're trying to...i think a 24-105mm would probably be the best 1 lens solution...but if it's a once in a lifetime trip...why do one lens?

I can take more lenses, I just don't want to ruin any of the Yosemite experience because I overestimated my pack mule capability. The think tank belt is awesome, but it tens to pull your pants down through the day, and that makes walking uncomfortable.

I'm going to load up again this weekend and find a hill to walk up and down.

I actually don't know what to expect. I'm generally the type to get into the action, but kid and greater than everage snow fall, plus, I've never been to yosemite. So I have no idea what to expect.
