Replace my 14/2.8 and 24-70L

Just got mine a couple weeks ago to work alongside my 1D MKIII beast! Images are similar up until ISO3200 but then the 5D takes over for sure.

Now that I FINALLY have a full frame camera after 15 years of photography, I'm looking to replace the stellar Samyang 14/2.8 (manual focus though) and 24-70/2.8L lenses with something that has a wide to medium range and maybe IS for video.

The Samyang is so good, but I want full autofocus combined into one lens. The 24-70 copy I have is also very good but I have a feeling the 5D MKIV out resolves it by a mile.

Any recommendations?

So the 24-70 F2.8 VC from Tamron or the Canon 24-70 F4L IS are options if you want stabilization. 24mm is wide on full frame. If you're wanting wider, you can look into the 16-35 F4L IS for everything you've described too.

Otherwise, if you want video and don't mind aperture loss, you can look at the 24-105 STM for video.

Oh, and the pixel size of the 5DIV doesn't out-resolve much, if anything, for terrestrial photography in real world application. You're fine.

I'd keep the 14mm. The re-sale isn't much. It's worth keeping.

Ok thank you. Yes, the 14MM is just so amazing! I probably paid $300 for it.
I dont even know if I could get much for my 24-70 now though it's in great shape.
Maybe the 24-70/2.8L II would be an idea though it's SUPER expensive and yes, no IS.

Love some of the sigmas but I'm a bit confused by their selection as far as what works on full frame.

The Sigma lenses with the designation "DG" are made for full frame.

The old Canon f/2.8 L vs f/4 L IS dilemma lives on...
Have you thought about the Canon 16-35 f/4 L IS AND the 24-70 f/4 L IS? Both lenses for under $2000.00
I hemmed and hauled about the 24-70 f/2.8 L Mark II and the 24-70 f/4 L IS for over a year as I was looking to upgrade my 24-105 f/4 L IS. Having walked around Rome with a newly acquired 16-35 f/4 L IS shooting Hand held in the Basilica's where tripods are prohibited, the IS allowed me to capture Razor Sharp images at 1/10".
So I followed my "When in Rome" experience and shortly after purchased the 24-70 f/4 L IS.
Although I am not a Video Guy, the IS certainly is even more valuable.

After years of trying both 2.8 zooms and F4 zooms I decided F4 zooms and primes is the way to go.

IMO if you are shooting events I would have 2.8 zooms but for travel and most anything else I would rather have a fast prime and a F4 zoom with IS.

I think that might be it... F4 with IS and a good fast prime combo may be the way to go. If I can sell my 24-70/2.8L without too much of a loss and I get over the sticker shock of the 5D MKIV, I will look into these.

It's so terrible for us in the Great White North... you almost have to add 50% to the price of items in the US because our dollar crumbled.

You may want to wait for the recently announced Sigma Art 24-70 2.8 OS. Canon 24-70ii is great but looks like you want IS in that range. I love my 24-70ii and I used to have 24-70 f4, the difference is significant to me - rendering, sharpness, DoF control, low light (IS is useless for moton blur). Tamron was by far the worst: VC makes videos jittery, rendering is huge step down from Canon L lenses, from colors (they fall apart when pushed in LR), to out of focus areas, highlights, AF is noticeably slower, etc, etc.. I am curious how if Tamron's AF will be smooth enough with 5div DPAF which is nothing short of revolutionary.
