American Bittern

Not at all uncommon, the American Bittern is uncommonly seen. This one dropped its guard yesterday while hunting along the edge of the cattails.

Thank, Rog. Just behind the house, down by the lake. There's one in there every year, but I don't often see them. This one alerted me to his presence by calling, then I finally saw him slowly working his way along the edge. Usually they are buried way out in the middle and can't be seen.
