Went down to my "bird park" this afternoon to check on the killdeer nest, and was hugely surprised and thrilled to find they'd just hatched yesterday, and all 4 chicks were foraging with their parents in the area around the nest. I shot over 250 photos! Near the end of the session, a crow tried to snatch one of the chicks, but the parents immediately mobbed the crow as the chicks ran of in 4 different directions. One of them scurried toward where I was standing, and came within 10-12 feet, where I got these shots. Talk about a golden opportunity!!

Adorable! Hope they continue to avoid the predators!

As cute or cuter than any of the usual Easter fare. Nice shots, Rocky.

Thanks, everyone! I was thrilled to get to see these little guys... they're out of the nest and gone so quickly, it's just a matter of luck to be there when they're around! :)

Very nice, I've been following some killdeer in my area, got a glimpse of some chicks but was without the camera, haven't seen them since so needless to say I am envious.

Thanks, Paul! They don't hang around long - usually gone from the nest with their parents within 48 hours - so it's really a matter of luck whether you see them at all!
