It seems almost trivial and should greatly extend battery life as well as reducing heat generation. That's technically how they work as is...there's a proximity sensor in the eye-cup that can sense when you have the camera up to your face. By default the live-view image is displayed on the rear LCD when the EVF is not active though. You turn the live-view image in the rear LCD off via the settings but I've personally never found it to be a problem focalpointsphoto.com

I would override those default settings ... they don't make much sense. Just make it a choice ... EVF ... LiveView ... sleep. Seems to be a no-brainer. David.

I get the idea ... but I think you should be able to use the camera in your head at least as well if not far better. No battery drain and (usually) no thermal impact. David.

Yeah you can toggle it easily so the live view image doesn't display on the rear LCD. There's a display toggle button and one of the display modes puts the "q menu" on the read LCD in lieu of the live view image....basically like a DSLR focalpointsphoto.com

Jun 13, 2017 22:18 | #1151 Let's talk off camera flash... I got a Sony and we all know you underexposed some. At least I do. Well on my Sony screen is black. I have to press the shutter button for anything to begin to focus. That's my gripe about mirrorless. Now if you shoot outside is awesome. I shoot both canon and Sony. Not a fan boy or a computer photographer that sits behind a screen and run my mouth!!!

I use off camera lights inside and outside of the studio all of the time, and yes you can't see anything if you underexpose the ambient, so you need to turn the exposure preview off. I forget where it is in the menu, but set live-view display to OFF. If you have the latest firmware, you can map the live-view toggle to a custom button or menu. focalpointsphoto.com

I agree with Charlie. Even if I was videoing a all day recital... You would still have intermission, time between dance numbers etc. I've seldom recorded straight through before. Most I've done is about 20 minutes of a play. A7rIII | A7III | 12-24 F4 | 16-35 GM | 28-75 2.8 | 100-400 GM | 12mm 2.8 Fisheye | 35mm 2.8 | 85mm 1.8 | 35A | 85A | 200mm L F2 IS | MC-11
