Yea the whole list has a menu to drill down from. Great little bit of trivia about sales.

Yup. Best selling cameras are basically entry level budget kits that realistically, none of us here use...so yeah market share doesn't really mean squat to us because we are not of the market segment that is moving the needle in terms of market share alone. We're buying the lower volume, higher margin stuff.

Seems like the D850 is outselling the A7RIII, both high end cameras. But it’s just Amazon anyways.

They’re all great cameras. Read my previous points on Toyota and BMW to see how Sony can improve their sales.

I’m itching to get the A7RIII or D850 as a third camera system. One camera company still has problematic repairs, another can’t seem to get their camera in stock.

But market share is based on dollar amounts, not units, right?

I mean, the "market" would be the total amount of money spent on a given set of products, and hence the "market share" would be what portion of that total monetary amount is gathered in by a give manufacturer. . Isn't this correct?

But do you know if the figures presented are in dollar amounts or units?

Actually Sony's Pro Support is pretty top notch. I've used them a couple times now. Super fast turn around.

That is what I was asking.

Why ask me something that I was already asking? . The fact that I asked it myself should be a good indication that I don't know.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Do they repair in house or send to Precision camera? Last I checked, LA walk-in center just ships to Precision. Broadcast only repairs FS7, F55 in House, but not lenses.

If so, if not, what type of repairs did you have done and what was the cost?

That is what I was asking.

Per what is in my post #1178, three of four sources were for Units, the fourth was for Dollars.

I had two repairs done. One was the light leak recall on the rx1rII, and another was a rear LDC de-lamination on my a7rII. Both were done free of charge.

They still contract with precision, but it seems the service level agreement is different for Pro Support customers as it was in and out of their facility in one day. They offer free overnight shipping both ways, so I had my stuff back in a matter of days.

Loaners are contracted via lens rentals, which is actually pretty nice

Stats are always interesting, depending on where and how you draw them from, Here is Amazons list of top selling mirrorless cameras, this one is real time and right up to date but only shows sales from Amazon.com, obviously.

The Amazon top mirrorless selling list (external link)

For Market Share, we always looked at the %volume comparison in any given tertiary by units. How much of the customers we captured. Revenue was how much money came in and operating profit was how efficient we were are using that revenue. Market share to me is/was always volume of units sold.

With the A7R3 at number 3, Sony is looking very strong!

I would like to hear about out of warranty and major damage repairs. I’ve had some lenses with major damage by some other photographers on our team, and I’m not 100% sure the technicians at Precision can handle something like that.

Another thing with high end models being sold is you can reasonably expect more high level lenses being sold as future additional purchases.

Entry level cameras probably have 2 lenses that the customer will buy and that will be enough to satisfy their shooting needs.

Once you start buying more mid level or high level cameras the amount of lenses and cost per lens increases dramatically.

As for sony vs canon... thats anybodys guess and choice to make. But if i was buying today it would be sony. Eye af being the primary reason for my style of shooting and sony did it first and is making noticeable improvements with successive models.

Quite! ... but the central theme of the last two or three pages of this thread is that the about-to-be-released Canon M50 has 'eye AF' ... by another name ... and a whole lot of other Sony-associated goodness (in APSC format).

That's why it is significant.

I know. Thats why i said if it was me. The follow up on why i wouldnt pick canon is i think they are purposely non innovative.

Again, all personal opinion but i would choose sony also because of having ff. If going apsc size then i would seriously consider fuji.
I think both companies have taken mirrorless and innovation more seriously. But of course all this could change in the future.

Maybe Canon put the eye AF from the old SLR times.:) Or typical canon way, it will work with one eye, not the other, for that you need to buy the next up model.:) I just hope I am all wrong.

The question for me is if it is continuous 'pupil detect'. Because if its like the Fuji eye AF or the eye AF on the first a7 bodies and can't track, its pretty useless because people's faces are not static even when posing.
