My point is you sell more units of $1900 camera than units of $4500 camera. Forget WHO the target is.
The A9 was a 'statement camera' for Sony, to show off what technology could accomplish (at a price). Kudos to them for that statement.

You said $1900 is more appealing than $4500 to “the market”. My point is the high end sports market is not that price sensitive and i’d say the $1900 camera is not appealing at all to the sports market.

We are talking about two totally different markets with totally different camera requirements and totally different price points. So this “the market” you talk about is not the market targeted by the A9 do obviously it does not appeal to your “the market”.

I have my doubts about how close the AF is between the A9 and A7iii. I also have my doubts of the 15 stop DR...but time will tell. Specs are easy to create, harder to live up to.

A9 was just a proof of concept. No supertelephoto lenses yet, no big game support staff, afterthought features (Lan and wireless function wasn’t designed for press use, just a checkbox design). It’s mainly just a wedding and silent shooting camera.

It’s a nice camera. Just not nice enough to switch systems or shoot sports yet.

A7III is starting to look nice for play money compared to Fuji. Will have to read up more about it.

That is why 40 Million Toyota Carollas have been sold, or 851K per year. while the Mercedes C-class sold 257K per year.
Both cars appeal to two different price points, in the total market. One market segment is very clearly large in unit volume than the other. Cars or cameras.

This very thread poses the question if an EXPENSIVE camera model spells the demise of an entire BRAND! What goes around comes around, it seems once again.

There is a bit of hedge bets going on with upper models, with many expecting trickle down tech to lower models, which is why the A7rii and A9 are such important cameras. They offer insight into what can be done with mirrorless cameras, and a short time later, the A7r mark 3 and A7 mark 3 get introduced with all the missing stuff here and there, a total package sort of like the 5D mark 3, but at different price points.

5D users were excited when the 1dx mark 2 came out with improved low iso performance, it would trickle to the eventual 5D iv.

I can expect a revised A9 within two years I think, the latest model cameras have a stellar mechanical shutter for flash photography, and the A9 should inherit that among other things.

yes, an older PJ was using and even posted some samples. Production model should be released this year sometime.

I had a tough time picking but just went ahead and ordered the A7RIII. I could of picked up a A9 used for just a little bit more but in the end I looked at the total package and don't want to be hurt for flash photography. I think the A73 will be one heck of a camera for sure.

Finally took the plunge.... Need to buy a few sony lenses and an adapter for my sigma glass. I"ll send my sigma glass off to get converted.

I'm in a HUGE turmoil on what to do with my 200/2. It's not just my portrait lens it's my sports lens but adapted sony gets limited to 3fps. Sony and nobody else offers anything remotely close to the 200/2. I'm in love with this lens.

I can adapt it for now... deal with the 3fps for sports... or just get the sony 70-200 and deal with 2.8.

I'm buying that lens.

It looks alot smaller than the canon version. To me looks like it'll be around 7.5-8lbs.

10 canon years is like 2 sony years

hopefully the Sigma EF to E conversion works well, I'm darn near the end of my "core" lens collection, all the other stuff in addition to my core set will be toys.

Close to a decade shooting the 135L and now the 135A, I just love it, and if sigma can offer native AF features BETTER than metabones and MC-11, I'll be a really happy camper.

Small 35 f2 search is seemingly my last "core" item I'de look for. I dont have much angst with either lenses as I have a solid workarounds.

Why not just keep using it with the body you are using it with now?

Just because we add a new body to our arsenal doesn't mean that we have to stop using the bodies that we already have, does it?
