Can anyone confirm this is a WFL? I have never seen one this long! It was at least 18 inches.

Found it in my garage, took a pic before releasing it.

I live in Southern California so I see them all the time, but they're normally 6-8 inches at most.

Definitely not a WFL, it's an alligator lizard, not sure which of several species.

Photography is my only pathological addiction; hopefully it won't drive me to something worse.

Thank you! I emailed a University that specializes in Lizards and they told me it was this:

"Hello Alex,

Thanks for the photo. That is a Southern Alligator Lizard:

They get much longer compared to Western Fence Lizards.

Adam"

They're such cool critters! Nip a little harder than fence lizards, too. ;)

Got a bit worried about that after reading! They eat rodents apparently, I have a big mole problem in my yard probably why they're here.

Thankfully this one was really gentle, WTL on the other hand are the complete opposite, they run like the wind if I even get near them or break off their tails.

Even for a alligator this one was apparently long! all the website I read about them say 12 is usually the max they get, I measured the plastic tin I put in in and it was at least 18 inches.

Alligator lizards have slender gray-brown colored bodies, although juveniles are marked differently than adults with a broad stripe on the back of tan, reddish, yellow, gray, or beige and side bars may be less distinct. In size they range from 2 7/8 - 7 inches in snout to vent length and up to approximately 12 inches in total length. With their large heads and powerful jaws, alligator lizards are capable of inflicting a nasty and painful bite. Their limbs are short, but alligator lizards have long tails, sometimes as much as twice the body length.
