I am looking for fast movie lenses for my new Canon EOS M6 which will work perfect with the new Dual Pixel AF.

I think all EF-M lenses aren't fast enough. Is it important for a fast Dual Pixel AF, that I should buy only EF USM lenses with the EF to EF-M adapter?

Heya,

So you just want a fast to AF lens that is silent to use with Live View AF? You don't need EF-M lenses for that, just most of the STM lenses basically are what you can take a look at. The 18-55 STM for example is dead silent and fast to focus. The 22 STM, 40 STM & 50 STM for example are slower to focus and noisy when they focus. Totally different STM motors. There's also the 18-135 STM and the 24-105 STM, etc, not sure how they report for speed and sound of AF motor, hopefully someone else can chime in on that.

Very best,

Thank you.

I am looking also for a huge aperture. So I think the choice is more at the EF USM lenses than the EF-S STM lenses.

have you already bought the m5 or m6? there's really not much in the way of fast aperture AF lenses for it...so maybe it's not the right body to buy...also how fast, and how much are you looking to spend?

That was taken with the 18-135 USM, which part are you looking to replicate? The focus speed would probably be the same with any lens...it's not a fast aperture either...i'd just get the 50mm STM...jnless you want to spend more

Heya,

If you're wanting to play with large apertures on a budget, also take a look at vintage glass, like old M42 mount 50mm F1.4's for $40~50 and similar things. You can get 28mm and 50mm fairly commonly for cheap with large apertures. Manual focus, but in video, that's ok.
