I did a search on this lens and only found a few hits from 5 and 6 years ago. I was thinking about picking one up as they have discounted them a lot. I need a good walk around lens and for landscape shooting. I was just wondering what you guys have thought about the image quality from this lens. I can get this brand new for $267 but I don't want to just make due because the price is so good. I am sure they have a new model coming out soon, but if this produces good images I am good with this version.

I have one that I bought when I had my 50d. I still use it as one of my main lenses on 7d2. It's very sharp. I would strongly consider buying another one if mine broke.

I bought one last year for my 60d and I like it but I honestly haven't used it too much. The focus ring turns during autofocus so you may have to adjust how you hold the lens slightly.

It's a very sharp and accurate lens. Over the years I owned it 3 times and 2 Canon 17-55. I take it over the Canon. It's sharper and alot cheaper. The only thing Canon has over it is full time mf

That's insane pricing for that lens. I love my 17-50 and I bought it when it was almost brand new in the market for $550 or so. I can't remember exactly without looking for the receipt. I think its still the best bang for the buck stabilized crop lens on the market even if it was still priced at $550 so that price I would grab one in a second if I needed one.

I think I am going to pull the trigger on it. It is going to be 280 instead of 267 but still a good deal. There is always something better out or coming out but for the price I don't think I will pass this one up. I read some other reviews and it seems to be a solid performer.

Where do you see that price by the way? B&H is listing it at $370 and my experience suggests if it's significantly lower in price to them or Adorama, then I question the legitimacy of the seller.

I have this lens and still use it as a backup.
It's a good lens but VERY soft around the edges, especially at the short end. It's not a big deal if you are shooting close to wide open anyway, but it's not great for group shots or shots with subjects near the edge.

This is true but really has never been a problem for me. It's not sharp at the edges at wider apertures, but if I have subjects at the edges like in a group shot, then I am stopping down to at least f8 for more DOF and then the edges start getting pretty sharp stopped down.

The 18-35 would really be sharper across the board if you don't need stabilization, but then you are not going to find one of those for $370 much less $280.

That does help, but the edge softness is something to be aware of.
It's soft at the edges at every aperture, just slightly less noticeable as you stop down.

For OP's purpose though, it's a great walkaround & landscape lens.
The zoom lock is also pretty nice on it.

And you're right, I LOVE my 18-35!

And you're right, I LOVE my 18-35!

I see you also have the 50-100. How do you like that? Do you use it for much action type shots and how do you find the AF accuracy for that lens and for the 18-35? I think I am going to buy the 6D2 when it comes out, but if they dumb down the sports type features too much, then I'll stay with crop and I think I will sell my 30/1.4, 50/1.4 and 85/1.8 and get the 18-35 and 50-100.
