Over the years i have been fortunate enough to witness a long of different this in Mother Nature's back yard. Some I have managed to capture and others were "really close". But then, close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.
This morning I was driving around an area that was hard hit by the recent flooding. for miles, all the fields and a lot of the roads were flooded and the water was rising with more rain in the forecast over the next couple of days.
I spotted this egret a fair distance out, bobbing her head up and down. These are heavy crops on a very dull and cloudy day.
She had nabbed a baby muskrat and was having a heck of a time swallowing it. I watched her for over 45 minutes before she took off and landed even further away in a tree. She was still trying to swallow supper when I had to move due to rising water. Hoping she either got it down or spit it out and did not choke.
