I'm looking for a lens than can handle and even mix of photo and video work. I'm currently using an 80D but will be adding a full frame down the line at some point, probably when the 6DMKII is released(if ever), not anytime soon though. I'm currently use a 17-40L and it works great, but I really need IS for hand held video and it's noise in the auto focus, but I'm getting better at manual. For this reason I'm thinking something similar in focal length.
Mostly shooting outside will be outside, both from a tripod and hand held(it's a toss up). When filming subject will only be a few feet away. Stills will be product type shots, street stuff, and landscape if the view is worth it. I'm basically documenting my fishing trips, doing tip videos, product reviews, etc.
I've considered the Sigma 17-50 F2.8 OS, currently on sale at BH for $370 reg $699
I've also considered the Canon 24-105 F4 MKI, I've seen used almost new for $699. I think this would almost perfect focal length. I'm also thinking due to the 80D being a crop sensor I'll avoid some of the vignetting in the corners. Should I save for the MKII and call it a day?
I'd prefer to stay in within the $500-$700 range for now, cheaper the better.
I also currently only have a 70-300 that has IS, so I even considered getting the 24mm 2.8 STM pancake for $120 and using it until I can afford something better suited to maximize both image and video quality. I think this will also force me to get more creative for video due to a fixed focal length and hopefully allowing me to improve my skills. If I go this route, I'll just stick with 17-40L for stills and tripod video and change lenses when I need to.
I tried to keep this short, yet give as much info as possible. Thank you for your time and input in advance.
