I'm looking for a lens than can handle and even mix of photo and video work. I'm currently using an 80D but will be adding a full frame down the line at some point, probably when the 6DMKII is released(if ever), not anytime soon though. I'm currently use a 17-40L and it works great, but I really need IS for hand held video and it's noise in the auto focus, but I'm getting better at manual. For this reason I'm thinking something similar in focal length.

Mostly shooting outside will be outside, both from a tripod and hand held(it's a toss up). When filming subject will only be a few feet away. Stills will be product type shots, street stuff, and landscape if the view is worth it. I'm basically documenting my fishing trips, doing tip videos, product reviews, etc.

I've considered the Sigma 17-50 F2.8 OS, currently on sale at BH for $370 reg $699
I've also considered the Canon 24-105 F4 MKI, I've seen used almost new for $699. I think this would almost perfect focal length. I'm also thinking due to the 80D being a crop sensor I'll avoid some of the vignetting in the corners. Should I save for the MKII and call it a day?

I'd prefer to stay in within the $500-$700 range for now, cheaper the better.

I also currently only have a 70-300 that has IS, so I even considered getting the 24mm 2.8 STM pancake for $120 and using it until I can afford something better suited to maximize both image and video quality. I think this will also force me to get more creative for video due to a fixed focal length and hopefully allowing me to improve my skills. If I go this route, I'll just stick with 17-40L for stills and tripod video and change lenses when I need to.

I tried to keep this short, yet give as much info as possible. Thank you for your time and input in advance.

are you planning to move to FF before the end of this year? if so, i'd avoid getting crop only lenses to avoid having to buy and sell...but if it is further down the line then

you should be able to do better on the price of the 24-105mm...you can get a refurb right now with the 10% off for $599...that includes the 1 year warranty...i'd expect used to be closer to $500

there is also the idea of swapping your 17-40L for the 16-35IS, but when you go to a FF camera those lenses are going to be a lot wider than what you are used to

If you want about the same range, get the 18-55 STM. Killer lens for almost nothing. I own the 80D, 18-55 STM, and the 17-40. I prefer the 18-55 on the 80D.

Consider the 18-135 STM. It is better than the older version. If you don't need wide, consider the 24-105 STM. I bought it for the 6D, but it is very good on the 80D, also.

Defiantly not going FF this year, it's more a in the big picture agenda. I usually keep cameras way past there prime, lol. I just upgraded my 50D to the 80D two weeks ago.

I had considered the 16-36 and I'm thinking it'l be really nice on the FF.

I'll be sure to check out the refurbs for a better price.

Hows the image quality on the STM lenses? I had considered all the ones you mentions but talked myself out of them for some reason. I really like the idea of the 18-135 mainly because for right now it would be everything I need and I'm sure it'd be my work horse.

I think the 18-55 STM is better IQ on the 80D than the 17-40. As far as the 18-135 STM goes, I wouldn't touch it. BUT THAT IS ME! I also use a full-frame 6D, so I bought the 24-105 STM which offers better IQ than either Canon 24-105s (I / II) or the Sigma 24-105. The STM is slower (f/5.6 at the long end), and not weather sealed. If you need f/4 and/or weather sealing, forget the 24-105 STM. I don't shoot in crappy weather, so the 24-105 STM works fine for me.

If you want silent (almost) zoom and focus in your video, you have to have STM lenses.

EDIT:
24-105 STM is $479 refurbished. Better IQ than the 24-105L. Better IS than the 24-105L. And you get a 12-month warranty. Not a bargain if you need f/4 (STM is f/5.6 @ 67mm), or weather sealing.

The 18-55 STM, is that the 3.5-5.6 or the 4-5.6, I see both listed on BH for $250. They actually have a 3.5-5.6 used right now for $110 and listed in condition 9, that sounds like a good starting point to me.

The weather sealing would be a major plus, I'm not going to be filming in a hurricane but I"m not going to stop fishing for a little rain either. I do take as many precautions as possible to protect from weather but sometimes things happen.

I greatly appreciate the time, this is a little over whelming. Heck took me about 6 months to decided on the 80D vs all the other options out there.

My 18-55 STM is f/3.5-5.6. I forgot the newer one even existed; I know nothing about it.
