I have a Sigma 17-55 2.8 lens and can buy the dock pretty cheap. is it worth buying. I'm wondering if I really need it. My lens is working fine.

Sigma 17-55mm f2.8? Sigma has a 17-50mm f2.8 but not a 17-55mm f2.8 so I take it that is what you're asking about.

The 17-50mm 2.8 is not part of the new line of sigma lenses so it would not work with that dock. The dock only works with the newer "art, contemporary, and sport" lenses.

As "gremlin75" stated the dock works with the "art", "contempory" and "sport" lenses. They are designated in their names "A", "C" and "S".

A full list of current lenses (and a few "coming soon", 14mm, 24-70mm) is at https://www.sigmaphoto.com …ock-compatible?show_all=1 (external link)

Should you be interested, it pays to check the Sigma outlet for refurbished lenses as well. The 17-70mm "C" lens in a Canon mount is currently available at $379 instead of the new price of $499. See https://www.sigmaphoto.com …acro-os-hsm-c-refurbished (external link).
