Hi, all. Been a while since I last posted here. Looks like a lot has changed with the format of the forums!
Hope it's okay to post this here (if it's not, I'll gladly remove it). I built a new photographer directory aimed at portrait photographers. Last year going on vacation I spent a looong time googling and browsing photographer sites looking for someone I liked and was in our price range. After that experience, I figured I could maybe make things easier so I built http://www.famsnap.com.
There's a couple other directories out there that are doing something similar, but it looks like they are charging $300 or so per year to join which to me seems outrageous. FamSnap is free. I'm not making any money on it (it's actually costing me money to host it and keep it online). I just like building web apps in addition to being a photography enthusiast.
I'd love to hear thoughts on the idea and I hope you sign up and create a profile (really just takes a couple minutes) if you're a portrait photographer.
I'm open for ideas to improve the site. I'd love to add some sort of review system down the road, but the tricky part is figuring out a way to implement it so photographers can't game the system by leaving themselves positive reviews and boosting their search results ranking on the site.
The site has been online a little over a week or so and there's a little over 100 members so it seems like there's definitely an interest in something like this. I hope to expand later and add things like a blog for tutorials, etc., but we'll see what happens.
