I stopped by a location that I don't spend much time at due to the difficult light angle and dense foliage. It's a straight road that goes between a swamp and a large pond so there's no moving to better the light and/or avoid obstructions. The gators cross it frequently so I have to keep my eyes open since the dense foliage comes very near the road. When a gator pops out it's good to be out of its way. The herons are nesting now but they're deep in the cover, most of the time I have to poke my lens through a narrow opening to get shots and hope there's some sunlight on the bird. A couple of perches are workable but it takes patience since the nesting birds are pretty skittish. A little breeze from the right direction can help sometimes, especially with Green Herons.

I finally got a shot of one this winter, but nothing of this quality. Well done indeed, Steve.

Thanks Eric. Definitely need luck at this location. Very little return on time invested but activity has been so poor locally that I take any opportunity I can get.

Thanks Bob. My best results in the past resulted from using a blind with these birds. The dense foliage can add some cover but it's frustrating trying to work around limbs. etc.

Wonderful shots, as always Steve.! Love Greenies and wish I could get out to do some shooting, especially with all the baby birds now.
