For years I've never gotten a sharp photo of a Blue Hairstreak's eyes. The entire butterfly is in focus, but the eyes look fuzzy. Now I know why:

Yes, They have some hairy eyes alright. I wish I knew why that is so.

Good shot.
One theory re hairy eyes in insects is it makes cleaning pollen off the eyes easier. The phenomenon does seem to occur in insects that come into contact with flower pollen.
