I have been trying out the movie/video mode with my new Rebel T6. I am getting ready for a ballet show that I will be shooting video. I noticed that the camera will turn off by itself on the movie mode after 12 minutes. I have tested this using a Lexar class 10 600x and 633x cards with the same results. I have even tried several other full batteries with the same results. I have two Rebel T6 both stopping about 12 minutes into the video. I thought it was suppose to stop around 30 minutes of filming? Not 12 minutes.

It stops at 29:59 or when it reaches 4GB of recorded material. 4GB goes by fast when recording HD video. You can always just start it again.

If I record movies with my 1DX, something I don't do frequently, it will automatically create a new file after the 4 GB limit has been reached. Thus I don't have to restart it.

Then I got a bit curious about this. It wasn't any more difficult than looking in the user's guide for the 1300D. It states there that after a file of 4 GB has been completed, recording stops. It also states that a 4 GB file is created in about 11 minutes.

Then I got even more curious, and by looking in another user's guide, it turns out you only need to go to the 750D model to get this automatic creation of several files in succession.

You guys are right on. I had to reduce to 640x480 to get my 29min 59 second recording due to the size of the files.

Thank you.
