Has anybody had experience laser etching their black and white images?
Our local library system has several "Maker Space" output devices available for public use. These include 3D printers, vinyl sign cutters and laser etching machines - time and use are free, we just have to supply/buy our own materials. The lasers will do wood cutting like signage and other creative output, and I've been told they can also etch on metal. The beam output isn't very strong (not like the villain's laser in "Goldfinger") and I'm told they're only effective with powder coated metal plates.
My goal is to take some of my b/w work and output it to thin metal plates, something like old etchings. For anybody who has done this, do you have suggestions for the most appropriate metal plate blanks? I've checked the web and find a variety of "printing" supplies available name tags and that sort of thing but nothing for the application I have in mind. Thanks in advance. - Stu
