Wilson's Phalaropes

We just got back from a birding trip to SW Manitoba. I was finally able to coax a pair of phalaropes to slow down long enough to take their photos. Like the Belted Kingfisher, this is a species in which the female is the more colorful of the pair.

Very nice, Al! So, top is female and bottom is male, in this set?

Thank you, Eric. You are correct. And once the eggs are laid, the male incubates them and largely raises the young.

I've always enjoyed travelling in Canada, Ian, and our birding trips are no different. Wilson's Phalaropes are a more inland species; the other two species are of the deep blue sea. Interesting birds, all right. Thanks for you kind comments.
