but I am never sure if it is a Blue Grosbeak or an Indigo Bunting. Cannot see the wing bars, but I am fairly sure this is a pair of Indigo Buntings. She doesn't look all that impressed with him. There were Grosbeaks around as well, with evident wing bars, but they all looked kind of scruffy and coming out of moult.

Wow, Nancy! Nice capture of it there; it's *really* blue :) It's hard for me to say without seeing a profile/wings; but, this does look like a Bunting to me, rather than Grosbeak. The beak is thinner/lighter than what I expect out of the Grosbeaks; as well as the high "bridge" of the beak.

Great shot of the pair Nancy! Yes, Indigo Buntings. Smaller beak, less black on face, and slimmer profile.

Beautiful shot, the bunting seems to have a different quality of blue then the grosbeak, a brighter blue whereas the grosbeak has a bit of purple? I'm sure this is a grosbeak.

the quality of the blue is affected by the amount of light when the shot is taken. Or so it has always seemed to me.
