May 24, 2017 19:40 | #6 have been told by someone who supposedly knows these things that both of the birds I posted tonight are Indigo Buntings. I give up. Henceforth, I shall just call them blue birds. Sigh. EOS 6D, SX50HS, Tamron 150-600

May 25, 2017 00:22 | #9 Another wonderful shot Nancy! It is indeed an Indigo Bunting. As I explained in your other thread. A smaller less robust beak, less black on face, and smaller profile. With the wings visible you can see some color on the wings but it's not bold rufous wingbars like a Blue Grosbeak would have. Brad

That is not the heavy beak that a grosbeak has, and the 'wing bars' aren't really very prominent and are quite consistent with a male Indigo Bunting. Did you get a feel for the size of the bird (I know this is a judgement call without something to compare)? The bunting is much smaller than the grosbeak. Did you here it vocalize at all? Their calls are distinctly different. 7D2 | 80D | Fuji X-H1 | Fuji GFX100S | 100-400 f/4-5.6 IIL | 300 f/4 L | 70-200 f/2.8 IIL | 135 f/2 L | 85 f/1.8 | 100 f/2 | 60 f/2.8 macro | nifty-fifty | 10-22 f/3.5-4.5 | Fuji XF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 | Fuji GF 50mm f/3.5 | Sigma 30 f/1.4 | Neewer X 25mm f/1.8 | Neewer X 32mm f/1.6

May 25, 2017 08:14 | #14 russbecker wrote in post #18362566 ... Nonetheless, a very nice shot of a very beautiful bird. How well does the Tamron 150-600 play with your 6D? Thank you! And I am very pleased with the combo of the lens and the camera - have had it for about a year now and it has made a substantial difference to what I am getting. I really appreciate the auto ISO feature of the 6D and am having better luck with it and this lens than I ever had with the old Canon 100-400 and the Sigma 150-500 that I had before my original equipment was stolen.
