Hi all. I bought a used 60D a few months back and it's been working great until just recently. My last few times out with the camera I've been having an issue keeping the focus point manually set to center (my preferred point as I shoot birds etc.) . I set to center focus point, then after a minute or so of not being used the camera sets itself back to automatic focus point selection. Might be something I'm doing wrong as I previously shot for years with a 7D, I am rather new to the 60D, but since this has just recently begun to happen I thought I'd ask here.
Any thoughts?
Mike

Sounds like you have it set to C1 or C2. If the camera goes to sleep, all recent settings (since last saved to C1, 2) may be lost. You can set UPDATE to ON/YES (whichever) in the menus, and it will retain your settings even if it goes to sleep. Or you could just take it out of C1/C2.

Hi Tom, thanks for the response. I did a complete reset of all settings and that did the trick. Don't know how or when I messed them up, I usually don't do anything in custom functions.

When I got my 60D I found the learning curve steep, somewhat hampered by being 70 years old. I found it helpful to keep a small notebook and record changes. Sometimes I'd make a change and get unexpected behavior and the notebook was helpful.

I also suggest if you are new to the 60D go online and get the Canon 60D tutorials. Canon put some good stuff together that can even be put on a memory card and played back from within the camera. I found that very helpful for reviewing operation. Go to http://learn.usa.canon.com …s/eos_60d_tutorials.shtml (external link)
