I got back from my annual Spring trip to Yellowstone Tuesday night, and it took me till last night to get the first group of photos post-processed. Frustrating trip; the road from Canyon to the Hayden Valley (and from there to the East Entrance to Cody and the South Entrance to Jackson) collapsed due to a water pipe breaking, which effectively cut the park in half. The only way to get from where I was staying in Mammoth to that part of the park was a three hour one way drive all the way up to Old Faithful and through Grant's Pass. I only got to go to that side of the park a couple times and saw very little. Also, at one point snow storms shut down most of the roads out of Mammoth to the south.
A few days into the trip, though, there was an elk carcass that had been frozen in Floating Island Lake since Winter. It had thawed out and floated to the surface a month and a half ago, but nothing had touched it besides ravens and eagles. Then, while I happened to be passing by, a big, old black bear boar decided it smelled just irresistible and he swam out and dragged it to shore and went to town.
