Romy -- that is one beautiful bird AND one great capture. Good work. Is this a common bird that you would see in the Phillipines?

Great capture. the colors, pose, framing and background are all superb. I love the reflection in the bird's eye.

I don't post comments when others have said what I would say, so I haven't commented on your posts before. I would like to thank you for sharing your wonderful photos, and also your knowledge and experience, which have helped me a lot.

Beautiful bird. Like the colors and composition. You must have very steady hands Romy.

Very nice, beautiful bird and I like the composition as well. Background colors complement the bird's colors perfectly.

Thanks, I got to it very close (less than 15 feet) by using my vehicle as a blind. At this distance, I probably need an f/16 to get all in within the DOF....:D

Thanks. Before the 12th century, the whole of our islands was all rainforest and mangroves. Now, there's less than 5% left, threatening the survival of many of our endemic birds (close to 180 species, mostly forest dwellers)...:(

Thanks, and yes it's quite common. The challenge in capturing it well is to get close and shoot in subdued lighting (overcast) so as not to blow out the iridescent back...:)

Thanks. I used the poor man's IS - shooting in bursts at shutter speeds slower than 1/focal length. Many of the pics in the burst have camera shake, but a few squeezed through without vibration and are pixel-sharp.
