Jun 21, 2017 15:29 | #21 Sure am. Just sold my Canon 5D3 a few days ago. That was my last bit of Canon gear left besides speedlights. Got my a9 and the lenses I need for now. Now just waiting for an amazing deal on an a7RII as a backup. WEBSITE

Are there any out there for $500 or less? That's about all my wallet can handle after the $10K I've already spent on switching from Canon to Sony WEBSITE

DaviSto ... sorry. I got carried away! More info | Jun 23, 2017 20:38 | #25 OK, I'm still trying to pin it down but these A9 images definitely have a 'look'. I don't know how much of it is the lens and how much it is the camera but they are quite distinctive. David.

I don't know how much of it is the lens and how much it is the camera but they are quite distinctive. Sharpness is what it seems to be about. Not just in the clarity of the image in general but also in the separation of colours in particular. I am a bit uncomfortable with the 'look' ... but I'm sure a lot of other people will really like it. What makes you uncomfortable? WEBSITE

It's there in the sharpness itself, somehow ... which seems to go beyond what I see naturally by eye. The shot of your daughter (I assume) holding hands is really fine (terrific photo) ... the others seem too sharp to my eye. David.

I suspect what you're seeing is the sharpness in the eyes...and thats a function of critical focus accuracy with a fast aperture. It's one thing I stood out when I started shooting mirrorless bodies...when you nail critical focus on the eyes at a fast aperture the effect can be rather dramatic. It's a look that's actually pretty hard to consistently create on a DSLR because of the inherent lack of accuracy of their PDAF system...so the expectation of what an 'in focus' shot looks like is different. It certainly changed after I switched. I throw out a lot of shots now that I would have considered acceptable in my DSLR days. focalpointsphoto.com

I think the A9 is pointing the way. More than that ... it's made some serious progress down the way. I'm very tempted ... just sufficiently broke to be easily able to resist. Nevertheless, honestly, there is a quality to these pictures that I, personally, don't altogether like. And, since most of this stuff can be easily adjusted, I'm trying to figure out just what it is. Perhaps I'm just too hooked on that slight Canon softness and easy rendering of colour. Genuinely do not know. Hehe I actually find the a9 files to be noticeably softer than the a7RII files. I suspect that what you're disliking comes down to my processing style since you're happy with the a7RII. So more a subjective thing than anything technically specific to the a9. focalpointsphoto.com
