Thanks!! Read some of these posts and that other link you sent me. And funny enough, the next homework assignment I did for Strobist was for the specular highlights :)

Aha ! I've just spotted this thread.:) I was wondering if one like this was on here, as I am an avid diecast collector.
Here's the mini-light studio I use:-
http://www.netgadgets.co.uk …-Studio--HQ-studio10.html (external link)

However, I don't use the lights or camera stand which come with it, as they are rubbish. I use my Camlink tripod, and white L.E.D rechargeable inspection lamp combined with my Speedlite. I usually bounce it off a piece of white card.

IMAGE LINK: http://s244.photobucket.com …ew¤t=lightflash.jpg (external link)

I usually set the camera to Aperture Priority (AV), and choose a large aperture value (usually 20+). When the shutter is open, I wave the light along the model, stopping at some points if I want to intensify the light on a particular spot. Almost forgot, I set the camera to remote shutter release. Here are some of my more recent pics.

OK, so I redid my car shot and wanted to show the difference in setups and shots. And yah, I have some color cast/white balancing issues that I was trying to figure out but couldn't get it just trying to white balance off the "white" foam core.

1. Original shot using setup described above a few posts with a soft box and foam core:

2. Redid "Strobist" style with 580ex and foam core:

St-Philip, that first Lambo shot is killer! The rest are good too but the first one stands alone.

Jon.

great shots! what do you guys recommend as far as equipment and backgrounds for diecast models. Would placing them on the road make it more realistic?

Thanks for the comments, guys.:) Geoff and Jon, for the Lambo silhouette shot, I set the camera on manual, and cranked the exposure down a couple of stops.
I used a shutter-speed of 1 or 2 sec, if I remeber correctly, and set a couple of pieces of card side by side, on top of the mini-studio, so only a slim crack was between them.
I shone the light through the crack, after moving the cards around until the light hit the car the way I wanted. I had to take a few before I got one that pleased me. I forgot to say (although I'm sure you guys already guessed) I mounted my camera on a tripod.
