Not signed. Sorry but they are under no obligation (moral or otherwise) to maintain a piece of software they made clear some time ago they would not be supporting. Any photographer who still hasn't transitioned to new options and still "depends" on abandoned software isn't very good at their job/hobby.

If they won't support the software, then I feel the code should be put in public domain within the constraints of intellectual property considerations.

Releasing source code to public domain/open source is rarely a trivial process for a lot of projects made in the last decade or so. It can readily become a bit of a legal minefield, especially if code or parts of the code have changed hands a few times.

To do the job properly you need to step through each and every section of code to double check that you have full and total rights over it, that it isn't some bit of third party software that was used with some manner of restrictions.

There is also the very awkward risk for a company that has purchased an existing project: Nothing like releasing the source of something someone sold you and then having a third party come along to look at it and say "Hey, that's some of our code buried in there, which we didn't license to anyone involved with this project..."

Nothing like the surprise that "Bob", who worked on the project with the previous company for a summer, was a hack of a coder who copy/pasted stuff that was claimed as their own work, and then long since left.

The petition is pointless. You are not Google's customer, you are Google's product. Google uses their software offerings to package you and sell you to advertisers. Google does not care whether you are happy. Google only cares whether or not advertisers are willing to pay for ad space. They have proven this again and again by dropping or limiting products that are very popular with end users yet can't be efficiently monetized to advertisers.

Wonderful!!! Why don't we start a petition to bring back Windows XP while we're at it?

One thing missing from the petition: How much would you be willing to pay to have continued support of the Nik collection?

I did it as well.... I'm sad google won't be doing any more R&D on it. I have talked to one of their techs a couple times via email. Great guy... very helpful.

As others have mentioned, if I knew Photoshop better, I might not need NIK.... but I enjoy using it.

nobody depends on it in any absolute sense, it is however very good at doing certain things that a lot of people find very useful and would rather not do without.

If you are familiar wit it you'll know it has very easy to use and effective options, especially the control points which is beloved of many, personally I still find the toning options ideal in certain images, others like it for its easy but effective mono effects, not always so easily replicated by more up to date software.

the tonal contrast in CFX is beloved by no less than Vincent Versace. It often produces results prefrable to the other 'auto' options in other programs (LR, Ps etc) and has full control after the event.

The sharpening for print output is one of the best out there and cited as such by many experts. There are many other functions which perhaps people have come to rely on in their workflow and it would be a shame to lose, not everyone wants to perpetually learn or adapt to new software.(which is never perfect and inevitably has its own quirks)

For some some visualisation is more important than the latest and greatest fads and they know how to achieve this with the Nik collection's help. That doesn't make them not good at their job/hobby

Yes you can duplicate the effects in more up to date software but not always so easily

No one is suggesting they are under an obligation, this is a petition, not a lawsuit.
