Hey all - I've been a member here a long time but have been busy with work/life and had to put photography on the back burner for a few years.

A few years ago I sold off all of my Canon stuff and went to M4/3 (LUMIX). Needless to say I am not in love with that camera. My wife and I are preparing for a trip to the Bahamas in January and I would like to invest in a new setup for traveling and walk about photography. I am hoping for some suggestions. Budget would be in the $1500 range. That would be for body and at least one decent lens. New/Used doesn't matter to me. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Thanks

BTW, Canon Rebels are better than ever cameras now and even 18-55 zoom was redone and it is awesome lens comparing to what it was.

What don't you love about the camera? What are you looking to get out of a different camera that your current one isn't giving you?

Personally I like Fuji so with just the limited information right now I would suggest an x-t20 with the 18-55mm f2.8-4. It's a fairly small and light combo that has excellent image quality and comes in about $300 under your budget.

Are weight and small factor an issue ?
there are many options out there to meet your requirements.
From a used A6300 to a A6000 and a multitide of lenses like the Sigma 30 2.8 Sony 50 1.8

If you're OK with the a heavier DSLR the new Canon is a good option.

Best of luck

Since you already have the panasonic 12-35 f/2.8 you might want to consider one of the newest m43 bodies, I'm not sure what you're not happy about from the GX1 but any of the newer m43 bodies (GX8, E-M1, E-M5II, E-M10II, G85, etc.) should be a major improvement over what you already have. The GX8 or G85 would be my recommendation, if you buy a grey market body you can come in way under your budget.

Bodies: X-T1, E-M1ii, G9 Lenses: µ.Z 7-14 2.8, µ.Z 12-40 2.8, µ.Z 25 1.2, X 18-55 2.8-4, µ.Z 40-150 2.8, µ.Z 45 1.2, µ.Z 60 2.8, µ.Z 75 1.8, PL 200 2.8

I have a Sony a6300 that goes everywhere with me. Love the dang thing... except for it isn't weather sealed and the sensor is a dust magnet. That is completely irritating. But otherwise, it works great and is the right size. I use the phone app for it also all the time.

GX1 is pretty old and since you already have a couple good m43 lenses I'd suggest maybe a GX85, or maybe a Pen F. Either would be a step up in features and overall IQ. If you're not tied to m43 and looking to move on to something else then any of the Sony's (with EVF) would be good as well, and even slightly better (A6xxx series) to way better (A7X series) in lowlight. That'd be at the cost of size though, as just about any lens they have is going to be bigger and heavier (and probably more expensive) than comparable m43 stuff.

Either way I'd suggest sticking with mirrorless of some sort just for the size/weight benefits over a traditional DSLR.

Hello,

If size is not an issue I can say that you can go for Sony A6300 that helps with good photography.
