It might be a bit overexposed but the white balance looks off too. On-board flash?

And yes, you could re-balance the colors and run levels. If you want folks to show you by doing it you have to turn on edit permissions in your profile.

I turned it on. So any help with pp would be great.

This is just a quick try.

Adjusted curves, levels, shadows/highlights, USM.

With a bigger picture and more time you could do a lot better.

It does not look over-exposed to me, and the histogram in PSCS indicates that there is no clipping.

Perhaps the reason it appears over-exposed is because of two issues:

1) the lighting is very flat from direct flash. That always washes out the modeling or 3-dimensionality of the structure and contours of the face and body. As a result, there is little variation in tonality - that is, you get the same level of brightness everywhere.

2) aside from the infant and the floor right around her the lighting is very dark - that only tends to accentuate how bright the subject is.

The cure is to use more diffuse illumination of your subject. Bouncing the flash, using an umbrella with the flash, using reflective panels, etc., can all reduce the harshness of flash.

Nonetheless, you have caught her in a good pose and captured her personality.

Thanks for all the advice. Since this was shot with my wife's P&S camera, I am going to have invest in some learning of PS.
