I am looking for a good USB stick to store some pictures & videos on. There are so many out there, but I'm sure there are some I should keep away from. What do you suggest? I am looking for at lease 64GB size or larger.

Assuming you live in the States I woud just go to a Best Buy and see what might be available (on sale) in the Sandisk brand which is reliable. Most will be USB 3.0 compatible but verify. Do that even if your PC or other device is only USB 2.0 compatible so you have compability looking forward.

Jun 06, 2017 12:05 | #4 I do have an external hard drive, but sometimes, I like to put pics on a stick to give to my swim team so they can download the pics on their computer. What is the difference between 2.0 and 3.0. I have a few 2.0s and really don't know the difference. Anita W.

Just find the cheapest on Amazon or at BestBuy/Walmart when on sale. Canon R5 and R7, assorted Canon lenses, Sony RX100, Pentax Spotmatic F

Ditto to above and the 3.0 will be fully compatible to a 2.0 port.

USB sticks are cheap, disposable items. Buy a decent brand name, when it fails ask them to replace it or toss it out. Buy a decent brand name, when it fails ask them to replace it or toss it out. This. Cheap flash drives use slow NAND that can barely max out a USB 2.0 link so slapping a 3.0 interface on it does no good in the real world. I have a couple of Patriot "high performance" USB 3.0 drives that can read over 100 MB/sec as long as you reformat from FAT32 to NTFS first. They can't write that fast though. If I needed a truly high performance portable solid state device, I'd look at something like the Samsung T3 which is an SSD with a USB 3.0 interface. SSDs use higher quality NAND and a much better controller than you're likely to find in a flash drive.

Sandisk states read speeds up to 420MB/s and write speeds up to 380MB/s but a USB 3.1 Gen 1 or USB 3.0 port is required. The downside is it is currently only available as 128 GB ($70 Best Buy) and 256 GB ($120 Best Buy). Those are sale prices currently available.

But not all older computers have USB 3.0. My first real camera was a Canon F1. That was a long time ago.

Well a usb 3.0 drive will still work just fine in a usb 2.0 port, just at 2.0 speeds. I was just saying that the thread starter could upgrade his pc easily if it's a desktop. Let everyone else worry about their own computers.
