For the price this little bugger is a performer! I think I finally found my long travel zoom.

It's 95% of the Canon 100-400II and much better than the canon V1.

Not a challenger... I doubt the sigma will match the build, AF and focus speed.... also the Canon aperture IS faster.

But the Sigma is a lightweight and heck of a lot cheaper. This will be a great option for those on a budget and where size is an issue....

Again good option for a lightweight travel tele.

I looked through the examples. The default (100mm, wide open, 5DIV) looks to be advantage Sigma. Look at the other bodies, other apertures and other focal lengths. The sigma is a lot worse at the periphery, and show a lot more than the 100-400II. I'll keep my 100-400Lc, thank you.

I can't wait for MC's review.

That's incredible, 100mm Sigma seems sharper, 400mm Canon seems quite on par with Sigma, the difference is really miniscule. Sigma has a contender on their hands, now if this thing can focus as accurately as Canon, I think this can be a real winner.

To me, the Canon seems to have less distortion in the edges, as well as more sharpness. It also has a faster aperture, so it's hard to make a direct comparison between the two. By itself, the Sigma offers the better deal at getting good IQ at half the price of the Canon.

It'll be a real winner on the budget crowd.

Will have to keep an eye on the reviews. Last year I opted for the Canon 400mm over the Canon 100-400 because it was a little lighter and a lot cheaper. I don't need IS for BIF but sometimes wish I could zoom out a bit. I figure I could sell my 400mm and get the Sigma 100-400 for little to no money out of pocket. Hmmmmm.

It is good to see Canon getting some pressure with new arrivals from others.
I for one am happy with my 100-400II.

If my memory serves me, the best lens I ever owned was a Rokar 135mm. Of course it just may have been way better than the other lenses I had at the time. (Over 40 years ago.)

Hey man... kiddos to them. Price is good and optics is in par with the best.

I already said build aperture and focusing is not the canon. Purely optics though.

Did I mention I love my 85A?

Overall it doesn't really give up anything to the Canon when shooting static high contrast subjects like test charts which is very impressive for a lens costing 40% as much. You would be hard pressed to tell which real life shot was taken with each lens.

The real test here is going to be the AF accuracy compared to the Canon. I know it's going to be lower than the Canon. It if it is within 10% of the Canon on hit rate then I think I will buy the Sigma. I am just waiting for more reviews and the general vibe from users here on their opinions of AF hit rate before making the call myself.

The difference in price there is about 2/3rd the cost of a new 6D2 give or take depending on release price there so that is significant.
