Amazon ends unlimited cloud storage plan

Was greeted by a notification from Amazon this morning that they have ended their unlimited cloud storage plan that used to cost $60 annually. Those currently on the plan will not be affected until the end of their subscription. The free unlimited 'photos only' storage for Prime members will continue as-is.

My subscription for the unlimited plan ends in July. BackBlaze is starting to look good but who knows if they too will follow suit...

You know, I've pondered Amazon's UL cloud plan for quite some time and nearly pulled the trigger several times as $60/year is quite attractive. While I have a Crashplan subscription which is about the same price, the attraction to Amazon was that it was a more established service, as well as its API integration into other services, such as Synology, which is my local on-site backup. Due to the API integration, it would've been easier to upload any and all files to Amazon, which is a pain using Crashplan because support is currently 3rd party and un-supported and breaks frequently.

This new pricing from Amazon has totally killed any notion of that though. The new pricing, which may be palatable to some, is much too high for a simple photographer such as myself.

This was to be expected. Yes storage is cheap, but it ain't THAT cheap...and the old axiom applies..the more room you have for storage, the more stuff you will accumulate to fill that space...digital or not...

Storage in Amazon S3, their premier AWS storage product, costs $153/year for 1TB in the infrequently accessed class. Standard class, suitable for high volume content serving, is around double that.

$60/year for 1TB is cheap. I guess they're either ripping off their corporate customers, or assuming people won't use all their storage. BackBlaze B2 cloud pricing is about the same as Amazon Drive.

Are .CR2 files considered photos for Free unlimited or do they mean jpg?
