Can I post an item for trade that is not a camera or gear?
Example: Want to trade a custom built bamboo fly rod for a Canon 7D Mark 2.

Is that OK?

I'll let someone else explain the rules. I do believe it would make more sense to join a fishing forum and sell it there.

I'd sell the rod elsewhere, then come back and buy the 7DII with the money you got!

You have to have 30 posts before you can access the page. Easiest way to get there is to participate in some of the game threads. Word association. Macro guessing game, etc.

It depends on the angle you take with the post. What you want to do is have a title that WTT: Canon 7D Mark 2, and in your body of your post, you offer up things you are willing to trade for that camera.

This is allowed.

In a trade or sale, one of the two items involved has to be camera gear/photographically oriented, and that gear is what you post for the title of your thread. The other, whether money or an item, is what you list as your preferred item in trade in the body of the post.
