Do you see how your exif info says you took that at 220mm? I'll bet you didn't, you took at closer to 600mm right? My RX10 IV does that too, it's annoying.

Sorry for my late reply.

#1 I think we are enough friends here that off topic things like this are A-OK in my book

#2 Are they recruiting for the college ROTC type route?

#3 I have several friends that have spent careers in the Army. I think that knowing them has moved the army up in my list of outfits so sorta Air Force and Army less others. If your kid is smart and goal oriented he may go farther in the army than in the AF.

#4 I think it is a high calling to defend this nation no mater the politics the desire to me is admirable. I also think in this day and age if you get college taken care of and a job straight out it is a commitment but 4 years out of college He will be able to transition well.

Personally it is young to start committing but I think you can work through that. Good luck!!! And thanks for sharing

Thanks for all the points. Yes he is a smart kid. One year advance in Math and even do tutorials on a couple of senior students. He's also in the honors class in English. Lead guitarist in the school's jazz band.

We'll see. at least now he agreed to come with me and visit the AF Office.

Surely 220 is correct. 220mm X 2.7 ish crop factor = 594MM FF Equivalent. It is 220 but 600 equiv. I think it has to be expressed as equivalent because it isn’t actually a 600mm lens it’s just that the small sensor gets you effectively there. My apologies if this is me being pedantic ;-)a

Annoying, not to me. The lens is 220mm. It's just telling you it's at a 600mm 35mm equivalent. No biggie.
What is a biggie is that the 10iv is a wildlife lovers dream machine when weight and size really matter.
That shot was crazy shadows but I got a keeper. The a9 and zoom were in the backpack...the 10iv swinging off my shoulder and
quick to get to.

And thank God it's not a true 600mm lens. How far could I carry that. On that day we walked over 6 miles in heat.
For my age group it is near perfect.

First attempt at anything astro on the A7mkiii

Its a nothing shot, but it was finally clear last night, so I shot out to take a quick shot.

It was a bit too early, and the core was not up, but the stars seem to be there :P

GS I wonder how much/how hard it is to defish that lens in post?

its very easy, lightroom has a preset for sony e mount with a bower 8mm fisheye, i didnt like it fully defished so i used about 90%, on my old a7 raw files i used dxo pro optics and it had some greatmodules, they have some for the a9 so i think it will just be time before they havesome modules for the a7iii. i have been using luminar 2018 for most of my images as of late though and i find it incredible, the noisware removal is like nothing i have used to date, simply incredible

Any tips on using the clone stamp tool? Trying to remove a shadow from my tripod on a shot and it’s been frustrating. When I sample an area, the tones come out darker on the area I’m stamping over.

The stars look pinpoint to me! Plus you seem to have not the problems I had with the Batis. I bet you are young :)

Thank you but I tried that technique Learjet this week and it didn’t quite work. He had a color cast in his image so it was easier.

Clone stamping is hard when values are different. I usually resort to Content Aware fill or the Patch tool.

I did see a cool tip that if you clone your layer and create a layer mask, the content aware will only look in the masked region for the content. This is great for avoiding getting unwelcome image bits in the fill area.

In real hard cases I’ll use brute force and clone in an area and then create curves layers with brushed or gradient layer masks to nudge the tones for a perfect match. Tedious and time consuming, but it works.
