i see.

even at F1.6 for a single subject is really sharp.

Single subject, unless I am up in their face...f/1.4 all day for me, it gives just enough DoF...gonna shoot some of the rugrat this afternoon hopefully...I have barely taken the 85GM off the a9...and if I have, I put the 70-200GM on!

You think it renders better than the 85L or is the 85GM better with autofocus, native, colors, etc

the 85L has 9 aperture blades, the GM has 11 rounded blades. I don't know if that difference helps with the bokeh rendering.

I had only limited experience with the 85L, on a crop body DSLR...so I am not the best source for impressions...but I do know the 85L was much slower to focus, and getting focus right was really tricky. I love the rendering of the 85GM, and part of that is how Sony renders color anyway...combined with nailing focus in just about every frame...

but this was a better comparison...I remember reading it when I was trying to decide on adapting the L vs native with the FE...

OK, that wasn't the one I thought it was...that is Fong showing them off...I will have to find the article I had before...doh....

I rarely use a full strap, I use a Clik Elite Cinch strap most of the time. Bags...lol...too many...I tend to have one for just about any need, and just saw that MindShift releseased a new one that repalces teh City Walker series from Think Tank....so will probably buy one of those soon too...but I have CityWalker 20's, a Speed Freak, a 6MDH, a Dakine Sequence, a LowePro, Mindshift Backlight 26/36 combo that gets most of the use now...bag whore...

I used the 85L pretty consistently when I shot Canon and owned a bit for when I shot Sony too. 85GM is the better lens IMO. They render pretty similarly, but the GM is a lot shaper., and at f1.7, the GM had more microcontrast without impacting the bokeh

IMO, the GM is pretty special.

Less football bokeh

Pixel peepers love it, it's pretty sharp wide open all over the frame, the 85L makes you question if you hit focus at times or is that just mid frame softness?

CA, GM wins handily

Bokeh when less busy environments, 85L by a hair

Size, somewhat similar, but the GM significantly lighter than adapted 85L

Price, the 85L got hammered by the 85Lii, and the 85GM also dropping in price as other options show up. 85Lii is much less expensive until you factor in adapter, then it can get close.

I'de say the GM is a much better overall package.

I've got so many bags, I toss them in a trash bag and they sit in the garage. Recently, I've been revisiting some of the bags, get bored, and go back to my belt setup. If I'm wearing a jacket of some sort, the bags tend to get it all mangled up, but a belt just keeps my setup so handy. I'm just concerned about when I use my gimbal or get into drones, it seems like I'm forced to use a backpack of some sort.

I tend to carry too many things even on light outings to use a belt system...my Think Tank Speed Freak acts like a belt, it has a waist belt, and I love it when I am at the racetrack or an event where I want a messenger style bag, have to move a lot, but don't want all the weight on that one strap...it takes the weight off...its a back saver...

I had the speed freak before, it's nice, but too one sided. I used to use it during my DSLR days, then I got the lowepro pro belt or whatever it's called. at that time, I would have some really big lenses that even the speed freak couldnt handle. I'de use it for hiking and found that I was just overgeared for landscape shooting. I would bring a 70-200 f2.8 AND 150-600, among other lenses!!! Talk about overkill :-P

I've been trying more and more restraint, I only wish I could leave the 100-300 home, as that's easily my worst offender. Can I really leave the contax at home? 300 is pretty handy for landscapes. I really only need a slightly bigger belt bag due to the odd size, and that would take care of my nitpick with the lens. On a belt, it doesnt matter too much, just doesnt fit very well into its bag, have to stuff it in.

I've been busy editing two recent architecture shoots for a client. Here is a gallery for the first shoot I completed. It's a local bar located in downtown SATX. Very tricky lighting so I did the best I could. I'm thinking for small venues like this I will start adding a speedlight to do some flash ambient mixing. Thanks for taking a look.

really clean work. a few cold spots from outside light...that is a big struggle, getting that light through windows to warm up. It also causes glare on the floors...I have this video bookmarked to watch on dealing with that, with using flash.

Did you have the option of shooting some at twilight, maybe to be able to turn the interior lights on...I know that creates more color casts and hot spots...but could be cool.

I was not expecting the outside on the first exterior shot!

Thanks Travis. The client only wanted daytime shots. Agreed that some evening shots would look cool inside. Yeah that glare and blue cast was tough to deal with. Did the best I could to minimize it. I will take a look at the link.

Yes the bar is right next to the downtown park. Great location.

I have a contract with the client for that recent photoshoot. It specified no more than 10 images needed. I’m delivering 19 as selected by the client. Would you ask for additional funds in the final invoice or just let it go? The architecture firm has been great to me and I have additional projects with them coming up. I hate to ask for additional money and potentially sour the business relationship but then again I did deliver twice the number of images which took lots of time. What would you do?
