For anyone that might be interested, here's how I lit my wagyu ribeye shot. I actually pre-planned this one and had everything laid out and pre-set in advance. I used a strip box on each side placed horizontally and angled down and forward a bit and a 24" square softbox behind the "table" to create the reflections. The idea was to simulate light from a window. Then after I plated up, all I had to do was place the dish between the tableware and fire off a couple of shots.

Robert, Regarding losing drones, you would think they would let you set coordinates for “home” wherever home is at the time and if contact is lost it would just return home

Good to read the encouraging words regarding updating FW or not even bothering to at all. Like MM, I just tinkered when I had mine but I do get tempted to get another such as the Mavic Pro from time to time.

My Go app is on 4.1.0 and my Mavic Pro is on 01.03.0700 and runs like a champ even with VERY old firmware versions.

thats the most stable version dji made, i rolled my mavic back to that firmwre, if u keep the bird and rc from connecting to the internet u will never have to update, i have my bird the way i want it and i wont update it ever, it was a bit of work to get it to roll back but it was worth it, the older firmware is very stable and its the most "customizable" firmware,

i have no knowledge of the older devices but the mav pro is an incredible photo tool, i was on the fence for months then finally pulled the trigger on the fly more combo, if u dont allow it to connect to the internet u will never have to update, it may give u a warning once in awahile but just a warning, my bird was newer version and came with new firware and i wanted the older firmware so i rolled mine back, i tried 3 different firmware and finally settled where it is now, if i never connect the rc or bird to the internet she wont need to update, i dont use online maps so i dont know how that woud work though, also theres a 3rd party app called "litchi thats just awsome to fly her with, the panoramas with litchi are very customizable, some users state using ios devices are best for dji and some say android are,,,,, the debate continues,,,,haha, keep what ever device u use in airplanne mode and she will be good forever,,,,

it does, as soon as u turn her on and she conects to satelites u set the home point manually at that time, u push a button and it sets the home point to where u are, then when ever u are flying and have an issue just push return to home and she will come back, ive used it a few times, if u dont have good signal or dont set it though u could be asking for trouble, they recomend u dont fly without at least 6 satelites, ive never seen below that when i fly,

Kekane and genesimmons, thanks for the great information and suggestions. You're wetting my appetite to get another drone now. The biggest issue I had (other than firmware) when flying mine was being able to see the monitor well enough. I have a Nexus 7 that I used with a hood and still wished the monitor was brighter. I've been tempted to get the controller with the built-in monitor but the last time I checked, it didn't allow 3rd party apps like Litchi that I liked to use.

And of course, now I know who to go to if I ever do get another drone and need advice. ;-)a

A few of the interiors I’m shooting today for a client. Been shooting since 9 AM CT. Almost done. The polarizer has been so helpful reducing glare. Shot with iPhone X.

i also struggle with seeing the screen, ive tried many phones, the phone of choice is a dirt cheap 69$ phone the "huwai" assend, it fits the controller perfect and the screen is pretty bright, ive toyed with the idea of goggles as many users swear by them and u can fly in the brightest of conditions, the only downfall besides they are huge,,,,,,, hahah is u look like an extrreme dork but if u can get past that,,,,,, haha, theres also a dedicated screen that dji makes called "crystalsky" they are pricey but again guys swear by them in the sun, i didnt think i would use the drone that much but now that ive used it many times i carry it every where as its so small, i can foresee a scene and think,, wow at about 250-400ft up that would look incredible, so just launch it and shoot a pano rama and bring her back down, its opened up a whole new photo world and i am quite impressed with the files, out of camera not great but with some editing they look great and printable for sure, the mav has came down in price a bit as there is rumor of a mark 2 but still only rumor,

great shots mate.

I'm so stupid i don't even know how to use a polarizing filter. your hotshoe level looks legit too. I just use the camera's electronic level. I have a small hotshoe level too but when i raise my camera, i can't see them lol.

Something to consider when shooting the milkyway is shoot ( meter) for the foreground, and then again for the milkyway.. Then in PP blend the two images.
