Carlo, that bokeh is pretty incredible too. You know it's not my genre but if it were I'd be hard pressed to make a decision on which portrait lens

Yes the Sigma 135 is a great lens, though not always perfect when there's a lot of hard specular highlights in the OOF areas. Really nice here when the ambient lighting is flat. Portrait lenses can be a rabbit hole of GAS madness when you start picking apart things like rendering, and bokeh, colors etc etc.

first edit from Big Creek, a new spot for me...one I will go back and explore more. 4 Stop ND and CPL to cut down the glare and get to see the rocks under the water.

so you stack the CPL on top of the ND filter? no vignetting?

Great shot and location by the way. maybe pull the shadows a bit?

yep, using square filters, vignetting isn't really an issue, especially with only 4 stops of ND and the CPL which adds about 1 to 1.5 stops if that.

And the shadows are intentional, I want there to be the darker areas, to bring the feeling of being down in the valley into the image, those areas were dark, I wanted the graduation of light like it is...with the shadows lifted too much, it lost the depth and contrast.

I am sooooo tempted to pre-order the Tammy 28-75mm...

In other news, I caught a used copy of the FE 85mm f1.8 on Amazon for $452. It came in yesterday and looks brand new! It was even in the original box with both caps and hood. No foam packing though, just bubble wrap.

Alan,

With skintones on Sony files I find that I need to dig into the orange channel and play with the luminance and hue slider a bit to get the skintones right. I found that I needed to do this with Fuji files to FWIW, as to me, the skin-tones are a bit drab SOOC. Of course that's subjective.

I think Charlie mentioned this, but Capture One tends to play better with Sony files than Adobe products do...particularly with regards to WB and skin-tones. Overall I find capture one to be a better tool for making basic adjustments than adobe products anyhow. The skin-tone adjustments in particular are very handy.

Edit: Also, if you're working with outdoor portraits, Sony is really aggressive on the green channel. Very often when shooting outdoors I find that correcting the green channel is all I need to do to correct skin-tones. It's kind of counter-intuitive, but the red/green complement in the frame affects the look of skin-tones.

I really like the work flow of Lightroom. I’m kind of not adventurous in relearning new software.

I’m willing to make light room work to achieve better skin tones. I often see Sony skin tones that just look off while analyzing photos on the net. I’ve never really had this kind of difficulty with Canon or Fuji .

So far my entire concern about Sony is the skin tones and AWB. I will have to say this is not very easy for me to improve efficiency in my post processing and is actually quite painful . Otherwise I am quite surprised and pleased with the performance.

It does appear that if you are not well-versed in post processing the Sony RAW images are not nearly as stunning. Other camera systems seems safer and easier To produce great images with minimal post processing .

I’m on a new struggle and adventure in seeking processes in post work with Sony. My new challenge......But so far I do believe more overall work is required in the workflow with Sony files vs my Fuji and canon system.

Gorgeous landscape Travis. High quality image. The hue and tones are subdued and very rich. I particularly like the transition from the light beyond to the darkness in the foreground.

Personal taste: I’d prefer a shorter shutter speed, but your capture works very well and gives the overall image a smooth dreamy look that is appealing.

Great shot Travis! That rock on the left really anchors that side of the image and keeps my eye going up to towards the soft light in the background. One thing that I would like to try if I shoot a scene like this is to take different exposures for the water with varying shutter speeds and then blend in maybe 2 or 3 versions together. Something I learned from watching a video from Dave Morrow.

Thanks!!! I was just going to try that as I own the 77mm version.

I really am trying to develop a process.

Oopa loompa orange skin tones is not flattering. I also seem to get pale skin tones at times too. ...... work in process....

Thanks David, that transition of light was a key element of the scene for me, glad you dig it. Water flow exposure preference is always a very personal thing...I like the smoothness of it, but like to keep a little texture in certain areas, like the outfall in the foreground, that gives that little sense of motion. I typically shoot several different duration, and then pick the one I like the most in post...

Thanks Alfredo. I have never thought of that concept, interesting. I will have to look into that.
