That I have a style is much too kind...cool spot.

We are heading out to walk through the redwoods and going to try Jenner Beach area for sunset tonight.

R III came today instead of Monday along with the return of the RX10. Lots of reading and kit lens is all I have from my wife's A7. Maybe she will let me use her 16-35. Maybe put the MC-11 on and my Canon 24-105 L. My 500 f4 converted to cash today so will have a 100-400 soon. Good times!

Man you are jumping in!
I just got an MC-11 last week and so far it beats the Metabones V 0.58, not by a lot but still snappier.
Bill you might as well get the a9 on order :)
Forgot to ask if you'll be on the 400/2.8 preorder list?????

I posted a couple pics earlier today. You can see we have a golf course out back. There's a great canal separating us from the course. Balls in our yard are rare. Ball out on the canal are very common. The boys love to cruise the canal looking of balls. They find hundreds each year, some more special than others based on color or whatever, This one from tonight has been deemed ultra special? And so it will be kept is it's special box!

have you tried the recall function?

it's made for these types of scenarios I think. For instance, shooting landscapses, I can be in full M mode with ISO 100, 1/2", F8, MF, Single Shot, custom 1 slot. I see a dynamic situation emerging, I can hit and hold the recall button. That switches me over to AV mode which has the "fast" setting already there, F4 (or whatever you program), AUTO ISO, AND Wide area AF with high speed shooting. it allows me to shoot AF quickly in quick situations, and as soon as I let go of the custom button, it's back to Custom 1 slot. I saw it on youtube, and named the "Oh crap" mode, it's pretty darn nice to toggle into a whole different set of settings rather than fiddle and try to get back in a completely different shooting style.

Is this an A7R3 thing? Is that what you're shooting these days?
I don't recall being able to do this with the R2.

Any posing ideas for senior portraits for guys? I’ve been asked to shoot some for my cousin’s son. Thanks. Oh I only have the FE 55 for portraits. I have an 85 but it’s the Loxia 85 which is manual focus only.

Hit up pinterest and make yourself a board of poses you like. No shame in pulling your phone out midshoot if you draw a blank while shooting.

For guys, particularly teenage guys, start with the simpler poses and get a sense of what your subject can pull off. Most guys cant pull off anything other than standard poses so use the environment to switch things up. I'd try to talk them beforehand to see if you can incorporate something from an extracurricular activity or something. I.e. a football

Thanks Vinz. Yeah I like natural light too. But I also like the flexibility that artificial light affords since you're not posing yourself around where the sun is so I usually cart my lights around just in case.

I use speedlites outdoors when I do family session shooting small apertures with great dof. Shooting wideopen I'll just stick with natural light but if the sun is annoying I may have to spit out some fill light for the eye sockets.

The thing about sony is that the images are already incredibly contrasty so even natural light the shadow transition isn't as smooth as other camera brands. Even natural light has an incredible "pop" to the image.

Another thing about speedlights is that I'd rather sometimes match the F stop the available surroundings so that the subject and background are not brutally blowing out the highlights. However when the environment is ugly I'll happily blow out the background to cream so the background can look pleasing :P

Man I'm still adapting to Sony but I'm finding I see a lot portraits that are too sharp. I almost find the Sony system to be a "negative" as it's too sharp even when the Lightroom sliders are defaulted to minimal.......LOL!!!
